Welsh Road Safety

#1 Post by Myrkk » Thu May 17, 2007 9:28 pm

I wish the police and road safety campaigners would get a life. Yes our roads need to be safe but it doesn't necessarily follow that bikers are the source of all evil. We've just had a day of irresponsible bikers type reporting and it pi$$es me off. So far this year we've had 9 biker deaths in Wales [may just be south wales] and yes this is 9 too many but really....... how many car crashes have we had in this time?? That never gets reported!

perhaps this is just backlash 'cause we are calling for Brunstroms resignation? Anti-biker twats........ the lot of them [and I include my previous lurve interest Patrick Stewart in there too.......old twatty anti-biker fart that he is] :smt019

Feel much better now :smt005

Hello Myrkk, did you see the programme on the box this week about bikers in North Wales? I thought 'oh well here we go another all bikers are scum' :smt015 but no, it wasn't the case, quite a few interesting things were said, 4% of bike accidents were due to excess speed (dunno how they worked that out), but most of the accidents were down to car smidsy's and inexperienced riders!!

Yep, I saw that prog too as I happened to be in Wales for work. There were some interesting snippets in there but I felt they got rather lost in the general sensationalist reporting e.g. the twat that was doing 110 in a 30 limit & the 2 'unrepentant' bikers caught lane splitting. Trouble with most journalism is that it starts from a pre-determined standpoint and sets out to validate it and, particulalry with TV, it's all in the editing! Still, if they'd filled the programme with the hundreds of bikers that normally ride within reason, it wouldn't have made much viewing would it - or am I just cynical? :smt017 The only plus point was that idiot Brunstrom wasn't given any airtime.
I'll get back in me box now :smt020

'Fraid it is! 'Filtering' is OK at up to around 25 MPH and providing one of the lanes is stationary or very slow but, beyond that, it's considered overtaking on the wrong side which is, very definitely, illegal. A Copper on a Bikesafe course told me this and I've no reason to doubt him. Maybe, in places like the M25 it's a case of safety in numbers - as you say, they'd be there all day!
The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.

Can't find it but I'm sure TC said it wasn't illegal, but if you had an accident then they might not give you benefit of the doubt for Mr/Mrs Myopic Driver.
