It lives - after a fashion
Following a week of fun in a cramped garage with an underequipped toolbox...
The RSV engine runs... kinda.
Boy does it sound different to the old Falco engine. It even smells different - I think the old one was so out of tune it made you gasp for air if you got behind the exhausts.
BUT... I crushed the fuel hose through sloppy routing and attaching it to the pump 180° out of sync. The outer rubber was worn away on one side and focused the twist on one place, collapsing the braiding permanently. Shoot!
I couldn't 'uncollapse' it but tried starting anyway as I thought this must be the return pipe. (wrong)
Bike started ok... not keen to idle, pickup was slow, pops and bangs on the over run. Now I'm hoping that this severely compromised fuel line is mostly what the problem is as the throttle bodies belong to the engine which had only just been serviced before it was removed.
I can't get hold of a replacement line immediately and there's nobody I can find in Nottingham who can make one up for me - so I'll cut out the damage and put a section of pipe in then try again.
If it's still rough then it's all hands to the keyboard! I wish I had vacuum gauges and a gas analyser but I dunna so it'll be unscientific suck it and see adjustments for now.

ECUs are the same - chips are different.fatboy wrote:What ECU are you running?
I believe Falco and RSV ECU's are not the same
After various mods mine used to pop and bang on the over run.
All cured by fitting a Gabro chip for my configuration.

It's the feed line! I decided not to try a temporary repair and thought I try a little harder to see if someone can make one up for me tomorrow - got a very important meeting I need to get to on Monday. You're in Sheffield - any chance that you commute to Nottingham? If not then I'll whizz you next-day postage plus multiple beer money.mangocrazy wrote:Is the fuel hose you need the feed or return line? I have a Falco fuel feed line you can have for free. The return line has the QD fitting.

I'll get a Gabro chip in time - my immediate problems may be exacerbated by in attention to throttle and idle cables but I can't tell until I get the fuel feed line sortedD-Rider wrote:ECUs are the same - chips are different.fatboy wrote:What ECU are you running?

What did you do about the inverted gearchange may I ask? I thought I'd just get used to it - I learned to ride on CZs

Sorry - work north of Sheffield, so wrong direction entirely. Email your address details to grahamstewart at hsbc dot com and I'll stick it in a jiffy bag and get it sent off. We'll sort out payment for next day postage later.KitchenSync wrote:It's the feed line! I managed to get one made up at my local Pirtek for an eye-watering £48. Still, cheaper than list from Aprilia and what with being desperate to be up and running today I'll swallow it. Thanks for the generous offer (which I may yet take you up on if I find this one doesn't fit for some one in a million chance for which I regularly seem to be the one).

No worries. It's there if you need it.KitchenSync wrote:I managed to get one made up at my local Pirtek for an eye-watering £48. I hope that's all that's stopping it from doing it's thang. I posted a video of what it's sounding like having rode about 6 miles on it this morning. Awful - slower than my old AR80 and have to hold the revs at 2,500 otherwise it dies.randomsquid wrote:Mine was doing popping and banging on the overrun. Griff made it go away by balancing the throttle bodies and twiddling something else. Might have been trim pots on the ECU, it was something twiddly in that general direction.
