R1wet clutch sticking question

#1 Post by flatlander » Mon May 05, 2014 12:47 pm

Mate has an R1 and after storing the clutch appears to be sticking. We have tried rocking it back and fore in gear with no success any ideas ?
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

Rock harder? Get the oil good and hot before rocking? No idea really, I've had that problem but only momentarily.

Try spinning it over with clutch engaged (lever in ). Sounds very much like a case of clutch sticktion, plates simply glued together with thickened cold oil.
Worst case scenario, whip the plates out and give em a wipe with a rag, that should do, and remember to check the oil level after

Totally agree with two previous suggestions!
Warm up well before rocking and then if no go, it will be plates out!

Stick R1 on Abba stand. Start engine. Wedge throttle fully open. Knock it into gear with a hammer. One way or the other the situation will be resolved. I can come and help. I have various hammers.

And I have an Abba tribute stand so we should be fine :)
