Uneven braking

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Mon May 05, 2014 9:16 am

Good morning lads and lasses,

My front brake feels uneven. I can feel it gripping and releasing pressure very subtly. Is it possible the floating discs aren't floating?

Yes - give your bobbins a good clean. Stick a bolt through the hole and tighten a nut on to it. this will allow you to turn it while you squirt in the brake cleaner.
Repeat for all bobbins.

Time consuming but usually does the trick.

If not, probably pad material deposition.

I just tend to buy whatever is available locally, at work they used to use Wurth stuff which has a good rep.
I bought a can of Winn branded stuff from Halfords recently. Worked like brake cleaner normally does but came out of the can with an impressive blast.
Where ever I lay my hat.....

The welsh outfit that does wavy discs has some good info on this sort of thing can't recall their name though despite having the discs probably black dragon or something like that??
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

As D-Rider said, Aldi/Lidl sell it occasionally. If I really need it I will buy it off amazon or ebay as it is cheaper.

did you do the bobbins?

examine the pads

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Yes I did all the bobbins.. none of them seemed seized. I'll pop the pads out sometime in the week

When you have the calipers off, peel back the rubber dust seals and look for corrosion on the brake pistons,
Use a thin bit of wood in place here the disc would be,operate the brake ,both pistons should move freely and at the same rate.
Also check the pad retaining pins are not too ccorroded, preventing the pads from moving

Could be material deposition if the pads were not bedded in correctly: http://www.stoptech.com/technical-suppo ... ther-myths
