Typical oil consumption?

#1 Post by gramey » Sun Apr 20, 2014 2:07 pm

Could somebody please tell me what the normal oil consumption is on a Falco?
When I got my bike last Tuesday it was sitting happily between min & max on the site tube. Due to work etc. I've probably done less than 100 miles on it so far and when working on it today I noticed there was no oil visible in the tube although the oil warning light has not come up. I added just under 1/2 a litre to bring it back up to the half way point but thought that's a bit excessive in less than a week?

You can't really use the tube as a casual daily guide. You have to do the oil level check procedure. Ie ride it for 5- 10 mins then stop get it level and then check you can see and inch or so in the tube. I'd say even my well worn example doesn't use much i put maybe 1/2 - 3/4 a liter in as a top ups over an oil change, which I do every 3-4 thousand miles.
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Falcos don't use much oil at all ..... I think you probably have not caught up with the fact that the Falco runs a dry sump and you have to check the oil in a very particular way - just randomly looking at the sight tube won't give you any meaningful information.

The method is explained in the Used Manual.
If you don't have one, download it from Martin Poll's website (you can also download the Workshop Manual from there too)

:smt001 Thanks for that, I have download both the user manual and workshop manual, I've just been and re-read it and now I'm worried that I may have over filled it :(

Do check it and if overfilled remove some .... otherwise you'll end up with the air box filled with oil.
