Choice of air filters

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Wed Feb 19, 2014 10:25 pm

As my air filter looks a little tired and I've not yet determined where to get another one from (I don't know where the nearest dealer is..), would it be worth going for an alternative such as a K&N? Are there any issues with oiled filters buggering up air flow sensors or the like?

Main advantage of a K&N is it's ability to be cleaned, re-oiled and re-used.

I used one for a long time before I fitted my Renegade kit

Thanks D. If the only advantage is reuse I might just get a standard one given the price of the K&N and the cleaning/oiling kit.

The only problem being I don't know where to get one from...

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Who is Griff and where is AP? :smt003

There's a couple of used K&Ns on ebay for just under £30 delivered but that means getting the cleaning fluid straight away.

Found a new pipercross on there for £35 - any good?

Think Pipercross are fairly similar to K&N in construction and quality. They have more of a name in the car world.
I think I would be happy with a Piper filter, Im sure you pay a bit extra for the K&N name !

Mine was noticeably more zippy with a K&N fitted. This may be related to the standard one looking like it had come out of a dyson.

My pipercross filter turned up. It is the right shape but is 4mm too tall and I can't close the airbox lid!

The box states it is for 1998-2000 Mille.. is this simply the wrong part?

Thanks

It's the wrong part.

The bottom part of the air box is shared but the mille and falco have different lids. Here's a pic I took of them back to back
