Tolerance will be our undoing.
If you're struggling then you could always get a venhill and make it yourself. Surprisingly easy and they work fine.
I think they also do a service where you send your cable away and they make one up the same.

The cable seems to be sticking, I cann back off the fast idle but the revs still stay at 3000rpm with the fast idle fully backed off, blip the throttle and the revs drop off, try to set the idle at say 2000rpm and it revs to 3500, everything or nothing.
Other days all is as should be. Everything looked fine when airbox was off tuther day, everything moving freely, problem getting slowly worse/more frequent.
Sometimes the revs pick up when I pull left hand lock, sometimes not, cable routing seems fine but something is not right making me think cable snagging
Edit, tick over is bit low when warm unless I try to alter it on fast idle then it can be ok or high or ok ect, the tickover adjust makes no difference

Adjust tick over with the tick over adjuster knob (just below the tank on the RHS) - not with the fast idle lever.
Probably worth making sure your cables are lubed properly and that the mechanism for setting the fast idle and the tickover is set up properly as per the workshop manual.
Certainly a cable could be sticking.
The symptoms don't really suggest this but while you are rummaging about, check that the screws that hold the butterflies on to the spindles are done up properly. Some have had them work loose causing problems in closing the throttle / setting idle.

My old set of tb's had play in the linkages and were sticking. Try some lubricating oil around them and see if that helps. You can move them by hand to see if there is any play?fatboy wrote:Setting a decent tickover speed seems to be beyond the remit of the adjuster (rhs under tank).
Not checked the butterfly,s.. good thinking.
Now all I need is it to stop bloody raining on my al fresco garage
Edit
set all the throttle stop gaps 2 weeks ago
