Why me!?!?!?...

#1 Post by falcomunky » Fri Jan 24, 2014 5:00 pm

Aaaaaaaaargh!
My life with my Falco has not been a happy one recently.
Spent nearly a grand getting her fettled last year (and two weeks of my life) and back to her former glory (new bearings/forks/swingarm/shock/etc.).
Then she highsides on horse shit the DAY AFTER I finish sorting her out! :smt010
Ive since replaced plastics, levers, etc. and got her looking gorgeous again and now the bloody rear head base gasket has gone!
Oil all over the rear tyre, smoke billowing up from the burning oil on the pipes, nice big stain on the drive!
NOT a happy bunny!
Think I need an engine... :smt009

think you may want to chat with Jay.....

and sorry :(

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Sorry to hear of your latest problem.

It's "just" a strip and gasket replace .... though a lot of work to change such a cheap part.

Were you flush with cash this would be the perfect excuse to ship it down to Griff and get him to do all the work ... and while he's got it all apart to slip in one of his fruity big bore kits.

Would LOVE to have Griff work his magic, but alas I cant have her off the road for too long as she's my only form of transport! :smt010
(That and after all Ive spent on her already in the last few months has left a medium-sized black hole in my bank account)
I reckon if I can get hold of an A1 engine (either Falco or RSV) and do a 'quick' swap, I could recoup some of my money by selling the original engine along with the silver plastics I have (silver tail unit and front mudguard, plus the matt black side panels).
There's a guy in London who posted on the Aprilia Facebook page that he was breaking a red Falco. I bought the red side panels and mudguard off him last week and they were just as described. He's really helpful and also selling an engine with about 21K miles on it. I'm tempted (he's giving me a good price) but unsure about the fact the bike had been in a crash.
Anyone on here know the bike?
It was a red 2001 Falco.
The side panels have been partially painted black (after an off, possibly on a track going by the gravel rash on BOTH crash protectors)?
Ring any bells?
Just in case someone knows its history... :smt009

Sorry to hear your further bad luck.
Is it worth giving Griff a bell, may be cheaper than a new lump, maybe quicker too to strip one cylinder rather than all the upheaval that goes with a motor swap.
Just a thought, and hope things get a bit brighter for you
