Time for a new battery.

My battery doesn't seem to be holding much of a charge anymore so it's time to replace it methinks, can any of you fine chaps recommend me a decent replacement please? I've been looking at motobatt's are they up to the job? Many thanks in advance.

At the risk of being cited for returning to type, I suggest you use the search function as so much has been discussed on batteries and the best ones probably identified.

.... but in summary the best combination of capacity and CCA is the YTX14H-BS (the H is important)

Go for a good, reputable brand such as Yuasa - these bikes don't appreciate you skimping on batteries - a big false-economy

Many thanks for your reply, I did a search for Falco battery in the search box but it just came up with different subject threads. I don't mind splashing out on a battery so price is not a problem, saying that, the site you have linked to is the cheapest after doing a search so thankyou!

Motobatt are also very good and worth a look IMO.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

I've got one on the ER6 and it's been golden. Being a twin it takes a fair whack to start and the factory yuasa battery was always a bit marginal, especially in the cold. The next one on the Falco will be a Motobatt.

The kwak one was smaller than the original in height but came with a clip on spacer, also has sensible terminal locations. The only problem with them is being a gel type you don't get much warning before they go south. The dynavolt one I had on before was peachy in the morning and knackered the next time I came to start the bike.

I put a Motobatt equivalent on my Ducati 888 recently and it's a monster, both in dimensions and in torque. I had to shave bits off the plastic to get it to fit in the battery tray, but it spins the old girl up faster than she's ever been spun before.

There was a distinct whiff of 'young man, what do you think you're doing?' when I started her up late last year. It really did get the internals whizzing around.

Having said that, it'll be a YTX14H-BS for me when I need a replacement for the Falco. The specs are noticeably better than the Motobatt equivalent, but what irks me about the Motobatt is that there's about 17% of space wasted, as it's undersize and they supply a 15mm spacer to pad the battery size out. If they'd made the casing full size and given us 17% more grunt, I'd probably go for that.

That's intriguing - The seller is claiming it to be a 14 Ah battery - just thought I'd check the spec on Motobatt's website - which confirms it to be a 14 Ah battery:

BUT

Also Motobatt show it as a replacement for 5 Yuasa batteries - and gives (motobatt's version) of the spec of the Yuassa batteries ..... which is significantly worse than the spec that Yuasa gives (I guess it's not surprising that Motobatt would want to make their battery appear superior .... but there seems to be some funny business going on somewhere.

Did you have to space the battery out at all or is it the same size as the original?

It fitted fine, the terminal posts can be altered to suit. I have had no problems with mine and they are recommended for bikes because of their internal construction.
To be honest I think any "good" battery kept up to charge will be OK, it depends on how you feel.

Tnankyou for the info, is it right that you don't need to charge the battery first you can just fit it straight to the bike?
