work

Right, where do I begin?
I started nine weeks in my new role.
It has become quite apparent that the merger is going down the route of the way my old company did things, ie ordering and using preferred suppliers.
We also have ways of paying for things.
Because I am familiar with the old ways and no the score I know not to over step the mark and know what is right and what is wrong.
The people from the other part of the merger have no idea and find it hard to grasp.
Don't get me wrong for me to explain what is a long process of raising orders and paying on credit cards would bore you to death.
My new bosses are from the "other side" and are trying to do things their way.
Our credit card has not arrived and one of the bosses keeps saying, "its ok keep getting the bits ordered the credit card will arrive soon"
In the mean time because I have ordered the stuff guess who the suppliers ring for the payment?
So I keep saying to the boss, when is the credit card arriving to which replies soon.
WTF.
Anyway.
We were looking at buying some new drills at 800 quid a piece and we needed three.
I was asked to ring the preferred suppliers and order them.
At this point I would like to point out that I get on very well with the suppliers.
To the point where I have moved area but still use this branch which is near home.
I order stuff, and they let me know when it comes in which saves me chasing them.
Mark the manager said due to the amount of money that these drill would cost payment up front would be needed.
Marks concern was that we could back out and he would be stuck with the drills? Yep I can go with that.
I told this boss marks concerns, to which he said tell him not to worry we want them.
Anyway having side stepping this manager I was asked to order them again on Tuesday.
The manager had his computer on so I said ok I will ring and tell mark you are paying for them now?
Yes he agreed.
I rang mark and told him payment was going through and can I order them.
Mark said yep ok.
I asked the manager which plants the drills were for? Three drills and four plants?
He rang another manager to ask. The other manager reminded him of a conversation the week before and they were buying different drills?
This boss then said oh shit yeah I forgot. Jay cancel the order.
I looked at him and thought are you fucking real?
I was angry and embarressed about having to ring mark and explain, and you guessed it mark had put the order through. I can only imagine how mark felt?.
I was so annoyed about this I went to see mark the next morning to apologise face to face, believe me when something is working you don't want it fucking up!!!!!
Did I also mention the company owe me 250 quid in expenses? Anyway lets move on.
So this afternoon I had arranged to be at a plant to help someone with a job but had to take some receipts to another boss.
When I got there for a laugh he was hiding under a table?
At this point I really saw my arse.
He came from under table and then told me he didn't know how he would claim back my expenses.
There were three managers in this room at this point.
Somehow I managed to not let rip but they knew I was really pissed off.
One of the bosses rang me when I was at the other plant to apologise for hiding under the table....
I could keep my composure no more. Yep you guessed it I fucking blew!!!
Now the bad bit is I told some home truths about a manager being an incompetent fool. Well tbh I called him a useless fookin knob head, this is the one from the drills?
After the manager I am talking too came to the rescue of the other manager, I pointed out procedure and protocol and how they have not got a clue and need to sort their shit out.
After getting things off my chest about credit cards, preferred suppliers and outstanding bills that need paying and suppliers ringing me I know I should feel better.
Well they now know jay has had enough.
Oh yeah and btw, I was walking up and down the front room at three oclock in the morning over the drills!!!!.
So there you have it folks. I do stress, I get pissed off, I need a lottery win?
What do I need? Valium :smt120
Oh yeah I forgot to mention the drill manager sent me for some safety glasses and forgot to sign the authorisation slip? He told me to sign it when I was in the shop and wright underneath he was authorising it? I thought I would share that one with you.
Oh yeah and sally opened the car door yesterday in the high winds?

And breathe........................................

I have every sympathy - all I can suggest is, try and stick it out and look for something else? If it's this bad at the beginning it can only get worse and it sounds as if they are really ripping the piss.

Don't suppose I need to say, don't do anything else that would incur expenses for you, just say "I can't do that, I haven't had my expenses paid and I have no money"

Thank god I'm retired, I had forgotten how bloody awful it can be!

Ouch

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

The job market (around the Midlands at least) seems to be fairly buoyant at the moment. In the line of work I do, we get to see a lot of jobs from a lot of industries.. The only sector that seems to be slow off the mark at the moment is tiling. Manufacturing and engineering are booming, construction is picking up and even MoD work is as steady as it has been for a couple of years. Being as rough as you say it is, I'd be looking out for another role bud. I can understand there being a certain loyalty to a company you've built a relationship with n' all that, but they're taking the piss. Firms as poorly run as that don't tend to be around for very long.

Because there hasn't been many apprenticeships lately, or even since the late 909's. Will I am sure you will agree that there is a shortage of time served tradesmen.
I like my job, I like the work.
I like being paid to travel in a transit mobile workshop with fuel being paid by the company.
I am on a slightly lower rate to what I was on before starting this job. But the van pays for this.
The drill incident manager, I have on occasions tried to let him know where things are going to come to a head.
Because he doesn't know the way that it is supposed to happen he looks at me as though I have two heads?
From the fourth of January we are going into an organised maintenance strategy.
I know that because of the stupid amount of money that is being paid to contract fitters to "Get the plants up to scratch". In January there will be no money.
I was told the other day that there is 100 thousand pound been spent in two months that can't be accounted for?
That is just in my sector!!!!!!
I know that this manager is going to be so butt fucked he will have a sore ring for the next 12 months. :smt091
The way of doing things from the side I come from, you have to dot the i's and cross the t's. Everything has to be accounted for.
Paper work has to be spot on, receipts have to be handed in. And hay ho if it was my business and I was a senior manager I would want to know where the money has gone?
I may be crazy but my work ethics I have been told are spot on, and coming from a background of working for my dad, every penny counted, time was precious and we couldn't afford mistakes.
It must be nice to have other peoples money and think spend spend spend.
The top and bottom of it all is, I don't like being bollocked. I am concerned that I will be asked questions about ordering stuff and not paying for it?
But hey, everything is written down in my diary. :smt112

Sounds like a pretty cool job if you get a van full of tools to play with :smt003

100k in two months.. Jeez.. That's some going. I bet you'd like to be a 'fly on the wall' when that comes to blows. lol

Overpaid graduates that have a degree in something pants, have no idea about the job, no man management skills ect.

Just hold on and keep your arse covered. If the gaffer is a knob keep notes, they may serve you well in days to come.

Like Will said though, things are definitely picking up. I've had a couple of really interesting interviews lately. Didn't get a job, but just getting in the door shows that things are looking up.

I really don't think that has anything to do with whether they're graduates or not! Idiots come from all walks of life. However, i have to say that I'm appalled and also incredulous at the lack of controls in your business. That sort of incompetence can only lead to one outcome and no doubt you are ensuring that the lines between business and personal expense is very clearly defined and documented. I can imagine how irate you were but credit to you for blowing off without doing anything more rash! Best of luck, Jay.

Thanks Howard and all.
After the manager with the drill episode was told by moi that I would be on holiday today and tomorrow, he text me last night at ten past nine to see if I would go to leeds to meet a company who will need a fitters assistance?
Normally I would do it? :smt083

jay, you are not on your own in having to deal with assholes.
I spent an hour on the phone today to VOSA, all of our drivers are being forced to falsify Driver Hours records to ensure they can clear up all the recycling over the chrismas/new year period.( with driver hours to spare )
The outcome of the phone call ?
Totally illegal :smt013
They dont give a shit how many drivers get fined a minimum of £2000 and loose their licenses as long as they can sit by the heater in the office and not have to do any fucking work, which is part of their fucking job description
