Rear tyre suited to winter use

#1 Post by fatboy » Sun Nov 17, 2013 8:18 pm

The maxxis rear spor/ttourer hoop is now looking a bit 'smooth' in the centre, so Im looking for something with a tread pattern that gets a bit near to the centre of the hoop
Looking at Diablo Strada or Sport, Angel GT,Avon Storm 2, Metzeler Roadtec Z6,Avon Storm 2
Any reccommend/avoid much appreciated !

Big thumbs up for the Angel.
Think the Angel GT won the sport touring tyre test of one of the mags this year.

I have a set of the predecessors on mine at present (Angel ST) and they are superb. The GTs are meant to be even better.

Having swapped from my summer tyres (Pirelli Rosso Corsa - the winner of this years sports tyre test) I found the grip and feedback of the Angels extremely confidence inspiring for our current damp autumnal roads - so much so that I have consciously realised that I am enjoying riding at this time of year far more than ever before .... and I started riding 40 years ago.

There are 2 other elements that have made it so much better - my new HG Goretex jacket (so comfortable and warm - though the price tag required a lot of uming and ahing ....) and the Gabro chip which has made the power delivery a delight.
All of those things have helped - and the Angels certainly have done their bit.

I have used standard Diablos in the past and Diablo Strada too. Decent enough tyres but old generation and can't match the newer tyres like the Angels.

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Michelean Road 3s. I'm told they make a good endurance racing wet/intermediate tire! They certainly work well on the road in both the wet and dry. Mileage is working out pretty good too.

Thanks for the replies,
Maxxiss on the front and rear, sports/tourers.
The rear has a few cross over tread lines (side to side ) far more tread pattern on the edges, perfect for dry roads, now with wet and greasey conditions, and some tyre wear, bit too easy to go speedway !
Narrowed down to Maxi Diamond or Angel GT

With you on the old fashioned thinking there mate !
A Maxxis will match a Maxxis perfectly, so a Diamond one it will be ( on payday )
The Diamond has a bit more tread pattern near the centre and I like the design concept, the diamond pattern squishing about to give quick warm up :smt002

Or you could try TKC80s; they work OK on a Futura, according to the pleasantly barmy owner of this one in Slovenia
