Two questions - old airboot / front mudguard fitting

#1 Post by Viking » Tue Oct 15, 2013 10:54 pm

Hi all,

I went to fit an unrestricted airboot and found that it won't fit - it's about 1/4 inch or so taller than the stock one. So it's hitting the front cylinder rocker cover... :smt013 Is there an easy way to get it to fit properly?

The same goes for the carbon fibre front mudguard - the bits that mount onto the brake calipers (and sort of "wrap around" the fork legs) are too wide to fit between the forks...

Is there any way to fit it that does not involve removing the front wheel?

Cheers,
Viking
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

The rsv airboot i use was a bit of a bugger to fit but went in with a bit of persuasion . i wouldn't worry about it touching the cam cover just wedge it in. make sure you have free throttle movement, mine was binding at first.

Fitting the mudguard does need the legs to be squeezed. in past the forks. I've. not tried with a carbon one though so might more of a challenge if its brittle. a bit oof heat might help, Nick Mrs Vikings hair dryer

I've fitted the early falco air boots and snorkel. They fitted without any problems - other than one of the ducts that goes through the frame couldn't be removed without removing the front rocker cover (though some have managed to wriggle them past).
Tbh there is no perceptible benefit from fitting the early induction parts other than it increases the induction noise.

I've also fitted a carbon front mudguard - aftermarket item for a Gen2 (RSVR). Again it went on without much hassle - maybe the mounting holes needed a bit of "easing" - I can't remember.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

As for bending the CF mudguard, no go there - I'd have to bend it by over an inch to get it past the forks. So I'll do it the hard way by pulling the front wheel out. (I need to sort out those bloody brake rotor buttons anyway, so it's a good excuse... :smt002 )

I don't have the unrestricted air snorkel bits, and I couldn't see how to get them out of the frame. Is it possible to just cut them up with a dremel whilst leaving them in the frame?

Have a great weekend everyone!
