4600m service, how much?

#1 Post by FlyingKiwi » Tue May 08, 2007 2:49 pm

I need to get the Falco serviced before I'm off to the Pyrenees.
My local Aprilia dealer quoted £130 for the 4600m service.
How does this compare with what you guys are paying?
I want a dealer to do it whilst it's still under warranty.

Do it yerself!!

Check the plug gaps, change oil and filter, check tyre pressures, change air filter, check chain tension and thickness of brake pads.

And if you're me replace the clutch fliud :smt012

Simple and cheapest way mate.

PS should be in technical btw :smt002

Sounds not a bad price - Rocket Centre charged me £160 last year for that service, came back like a new bike. Motorcycle Centre (Orrell) wanted even more than that :smt018 , so £130 seems OK, as long as they're going to do everything that's on the schedule. Who's the dealer?

Got the 9k service due soon, not looking forward to the bill from that one... :smt012

Does that include parts? Oil / Filter / clutch fluid. At my local Aprilia dealer (Croydon) its £199 for interim £299 for a full service. :smt010

Yeah, I wouldn't even consider paying a dealer to service my bike.
Doing your own work is the best way to get to know your bike AND spot potential problems. Also a chance to get into nooks and crannies to clean it up.

The dealer is A&D Motorcycles in Denbigh.
He said it included all and I was thinking of getting it done then hitting them with the service schedule to confirm it's all done.

Unless you have 5 thumbs on each hand. Sadly many people do when it comes to mechanicals.

Guess that makes it each to his/her own. :smt001

..... and some of us use the dealers while the bike is under warranty.

For me, the warranty period will disappear very soon so I'll probably do most of my own work then.

BTW .... Where are the pictures to this thread .... in the Aprilia Gallery :smt017

Think I'll move it when I've worked out the best place for it (unless pictures appear very soon)

I'd ask before hand - both dealers I got quotes from said "yes, everything is included", but when pressured they said they didn't do the fork oil change, and one other item on the schedule (I forget what). I wasn't bothered, because neither item was vital as far as I could tell, but I think you'd be better finding out up front rather than getting your bike back and finding that it's going to take a week to replace that one vital widget that's got to be ordered in.

Ditto - no more warranty, probably no more dealer service - I've no problems getting dirt under my nails and regularly do, but until the warranty is out I'll stick with the dealer.

To all of you saying "do it yourself", do you do everything that the service schedule says you should do? :smt019 , and what do you look for when buying 2nd hand bike? Maybe dealer service history is part of it, do you really believe that everyone who says they do their own servicing does everything they should just cos they've got a few receipts?

Sorry for the derail :smt003

The manual says only Oil, Filter and fork oil need changing. Of course others need checking, cleaning, replace if necessary but I can't see a dealer replacing if they don't have to.
This will be my last Dealer service as I'll be out of warranty for the next one.
Unless I can squeeze in some more Euro trips :smt016

I was quoted, £250 for the stealer to do it, so I said balls to that and spent £60 on parts and did it myself, apart from the Exxon Valdez size oil slick on the garage floor, it was a piece of cake.

I keep all receipts for all the spares and bits and pieces I buy and keep them in a folder with dates and mileage written on them.

Ergo a "service history"

Wouldn't trust no dealer monkey after I rode away from a service with loose brake calipers and wheel nuts :smt011

Glad to hear it :smt003 but do you believe that everyone else does?

Just to clear things up, I fully agree with the philosophy of maintaining your bike yourself (and I certainly wouldn't go to a stealer to get, say, a belly-pan or shock fitted), but can understand those that don't want to. But I will be getting this last service done by a dealer while it's still under warranty. Next time is another matter though :smt002
