New (expensive) shopping list...

#1 Post by falcomunky » Sun Aug 11, 2013 9:08 am

Okay peeps. Hoping some members might be able to help with my shopping list.....
I am after:
An RSV swingarm, 99-03 (curvy). Must be in good condition with no seized bearings, hugger bolts or other damage. Would prefer the shiny silver variant!
I'm watching a couple on Ebay, but I'd rather buy from trusted members on here...
Also, a pair of front forks (Showa) from the same year Falco/Tuono/RSV. Again, they need to be good condition, no seized bolts, chipped stanchion tubes or major corrosion and preferably the gold versions. :)
My girl is getting on a bit and after riding through 8 winters the linkage bearing in the swingarm has disintegrated and chewed-up the journal (hence a new swinger required) and my forks are corroding badly on the lower leg as well as further up from where the hoses have rubbed.
I had considered chopping her in for something else due to her age, but there's nothing I fancy (she's a LOT of bike to beat! lol) so I'm planning on getting all the parts I need and laying her up over this next winter to get her fully fettled (while hacking to work on a mates old CG125!).
I'm also stripping the top-end and replacing whatever I find worn (shims, rings etc).
Anyone got what I need?
Where is the best place (UK) to get the new sussie bearings from? Are they hard to get or pretty standard spec?
Any and all help GREATLY appreciated!
Two is the magic number... ;)

Look in the Aprilia technical section for bearings

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I have a set of falco Showa forks in the garage from when I swapped to Ohlins last year, I'm pretty sure they're clean and corrosion free but if you're interested I can get them out and get some pics. IIRC the Showas were all black an the Marzocchis (from late bikes) were gold.

@higgy: Are they in good condition mate? No leaks etc? Gold or Black versions? Gen-1 I presume?
@blinkey/flatlander: Just the stanchions or complete forks?
Also, prices/pics?... :smt003
I also posted my list over on the Aprilia Performance Fbook page and Griff reckoned they could sort me out with everything!
Just need prices so I can go begging to the Missus... :smt002
Cheers fer the replies so far peeps! :smt006

Careful - the wrath of D-Rider will be visited upon you for making comments like that... :smt003

The Showas came in black or gold, but black was the more common colour. It's a mistake to try and identify forks from the colour alone. The only valid way is by looking at the preload/rebound adjusters on the top of the fork.

Indeed there are gold and black forks from both manufacturers.
Not sure that there were any gold showa's on any UK Falcos (if so, a rarity) so if you want gold, you will probably need to go for Marzocchi (or Ohlins)

Which, if I'm not mistaken, would require the yokes etc as well?
@control_67: Yes please mate - pics n a price would be great! :smt005

Showa and Marzocchi use the same yokes - ohlins require a swap

As for suspension bearings, most can be sourced easily from good bearing suppliers like Simply Bearings or Brammer.

The needle bearings for the linkages are not easy to come by - the caged variety are commonly available but the full compliment ones are hard to find.

Ooo... :smt007
Not sure the Missus will allow the extra expense tho, just need prices n pics from people!
BTW, there's a decent Mille swinger ending within a day that I may well bid on but I'll need bearings.
Anyone have part numbers or a web-page link and the correct amount I'll need?
I reckon on six for the linkages (triangle to dogbone - x2, where they bolt to the frame - x2, and where they bolt to the swingarm - x2)?
That right? :smt017

Yes - all the bearing numbers are in the TECHNICAL section

So, what your saying is I need to look in the TECHNICAL section for bearings D-R? :smt017
:smt003
Still waiting on prices n pics for front forks chaps (before the Missus has second thoughts)... :smt006
