shock question

If an 01 mille shock has been serviced to fit a falco will I still need the linkages

The description is too uncertain to know what linkages it requires. It says it's modified to fit with both Falco and Mille - but only the very early Milles shared linkages with the Falco - and they used the white spring shock.

Think you would need to speak to someone who knows what's been done to this actual shock.

Just spoke to the seller. He never changed his linkages and was told by a aprilia club members it would be fine. He has his bike serviced by Griff and he would have spotted it.

Hmmm not convinced re club aprilia members knowledge of things Falco .... some of us are also club aprilia members (though I've not been on the forum for ages). There are few Falco owners on there and the knowledge really resides in those that are here.

Regarding being serviced at AP - depends what was being done as to whether that would have been looked at. Yes they are very good there but they won't necessarily spot every thing in areas they might not be playing with (though often they will)

Pete, Mart and I all know him - probably some others too.

I remember his Falco too - it was a nice one - there's even a picture of it on here in a thread that explains about the long-stem RS125 mirrors that are a good upgrade to the Falco.

I seem to remember Griff did maintain his bike regularly so pretty sure he'd have picked it up as you say.
In all probability re-valved and re-sprung for Falco linkages ..... though obviously I really can't be sure.

He seems spot on. He says he never changed linkages and I would hope it fits mine too.

I'll have to see what Griff says. I could always buy linkages if necessary but would rather not have any more parcels turn up this week. ;)

There are two types of aprilia ohlins. The ap 8140 and the ap 8130
I think the ap 8130 is the earlier shock if my memory serves and uses the original dog bone and triangles.
An other way to identify the earlier shock...... On the bottom ring at the base of the spring it has raised lettering around it saying "Ohlins Racing" the later one does not.
Tolerance will be our undoing.

Yep - I believe it's a sachs .... and the Q&A mentions the valve on the reservoir being replaced with a recessed one ..... a Sachs shock mod

I have met him a few times and he knew his stuff


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Sounds like it has been on a falc, regularly serviced by Griff, Griff does not do 'second best', sold by a clubaprilia member known by others.....
If the seller says it worked on his falc, then any reason to dis believe ?

Not particularly however this year shock should have accompanying linkages. The seller says he never changed them but is unsure what has been done to the shock.

As its going on my bike and is a vital component i would rather know a bit about it.
