A Bit of Good News

#1 Post by D-Rider » Sat Jun 22, 2013 1:59 pm

It's a while since I updated people as to how my wife, Joy, is progressing.

Quick recap. A couple of years ago her breast cancer came back in the form of a secondary constricting one of her breathing tubes.
In September 2011 they eventually confirmed the diagnosis and estimated she may have a 18 months to live (secondary cancers being incurable at present).

The 18 months came and went in March and she's still here - in fact she's doing very well with the regular scans and blood tests showing things are currently still responding well to treatment (on Thursday her consultant commented "you're just too well")
Nevertheless, she has been getting very tired and so has applied for early retirement.
Her consultant filled out her forms in support of this and included an estimation of her continuance of another year or two (we're hoping that is a rather cautious estimate designed to help her application for retirement).

Anyway, today we heard that the application for early retirement has been approved.

Certainly time for a bit of celebration.

Bar is open (what with Pete's tab, Keith's tab and this one, we're going to have a pretty pissed forum :smt030 )

An ironic sub-note ..... on the very same day that Joy received her early retirement confirmation, I received a letter from the DWP telling me that my retirement age has gone up by a year :smt090

I'll drink to that Andy.

My thoughts are with you both.
Cheers!

Am so pleased :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Really pleased to hear about Joy's retirement, it all helps!

Glad to hear that things are (cautiously) improving. I can't imagine what it must be like to deal with stuff like that on a daily basis, so full credit to you and Joy for dealing with it so well. Keep on enjoying life and here's hoping it's for a long time to come for both of you.

Good news indeed. On both fronts really, as she won't have to put up with you mooching around the house getting under her feet for at least another year :smt016
