How do I stop facebook sending the messages to my email account notifying me of a post?

Turn off notifications
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Go to the padlock symbol at top right, click there, click on 'see more settings' then click 'notifications' on the left, and you'll see the list of settings you can edit.

Sorted. Thanks folks. I joined FBB the other day. I have to clear out 200-300 notifications a day. Not now though. Thanks again
