Quite simply, I'm looking for a bike sat nav.

Any recommendations/ones to avoid?

Want to spend money or get by?

Want to spend money - buy a zumo 660

Want to save money - waterproof something else and connecting it

I guess it depends on how much. I'm thinking of something along the Tomtom/Garmin/Navman kind of money but I'll spend more if I have to.

avoid all of them get a map book and stop for coffee ??

if not most smart devices have google maps which is good for most situations but doesn't have onboard maps (in most cases) Nav Free has a download offline map option)

Presuming you already have a smartphone - waterproof case, bikemount, and accessory socket for charging can be had for less than £70. Add on a Bluetooth earpiece, and a cheap off-line-maps-available satnave app - live skobbler - and you're off.

I use my samsung s3 when i need to but my ifone (yes alad i bought one) works well too..

Why oh why would you buy one of those over-priced niche-market things?

Maybe Joe-public has at last begun to rumble them (despite the continual media promotion of crApple) - Q1 of this year only about 1 in every 6 smartphones sold was an i-phone.

for fair comparison..

its great...

for propping the samsung up when im using it in the car as a slutnav..

fuck all use for anything else.. too small for anyone but a child to use

maps is slightly quicker that samsung, but my samsung is loaded, the ifone is empty

I used to love my old garmin quest but the price of map updates was rediculous, so upgraded to a zumo 660, still cant say i like it as much as the quest. First use in the car going to ipstones in derbyshire, via 'the north' and the bloody thing took us through sheffield in rush hour. Great.

The pc mapping software is akward to use but very complete.

But, big thumbs up for bluetooth scala headset, lets me use either smartphone or zupo when its out of sight and my better half can phone me on the move to check all is ok - mint!

Either option needs a power feed of some sort, either satnav harness or i mounted a ciggy lighter so i can plug a charger for anything thats needed.
