Well update on my bike be knocked over by white van man (my neighbours son) he has agreed to pay and all is well so just paint to get done and we are all good again.

in the meantime I decided to address the issue of the crappy Aprilia side stand, having read numerous suggestions as to the best way forward. Most involve the GSXR of fireblade stand. The GSXR looked too messy and the fireblade stand in the year range is hard to get anywhere at a reasonable price.

I read somewhere that a Blackbird stand would do, so I got one of fleabay for £15 inc postage.

Most suggest that just the stand is the way forward, so I dismantled the two stands and all went well. Once fitted the bike was far more stable but still very upright and there are a number of other issues.

1 - the stand sits to far in when it's up and has a short kick arm so it is difficult to get at whilst you are on the bike.
2 - the switch from the falco require another pin hole to be drilled in the stand
3 - the falco bracket does not allow the stand to stop when up so it hits the underside of the exhaust.

Whilst all the issues are solvable I decided to try the honda stand and bracket, as to be honest the whole assembly is better made.

Things you need to do:

1 - reshape the top of the bracket so it missed the engine casing bumps, good old angle grinder (10 minutes)
2 - elongate one of the mounting holes on the bracket as they are about 0.5 mm too far apart. Dremel - 5 minutes

That done and the stand fitted the bike now has a good angle of lean. The stand angles further forward than I think it should but by the same token it is rock solid and would never roll forward off the stand. It now meet the honda stop and does not catch the exhaust and sits out a bit more than using the falco bracket so is easy to lower whilst sat on the bike.

Then the dreaded switch. The honda one does not work. It only has 2 wires instead of 3 and using the existing mounting pins, the light off when down and on when up.

I then tried the falco switch and again using the existing honda mounting points it works perfectly.

All in all I am happy with the overall job, it is 100% more stable, more solidly made, a quality item and only took 15 minutes fettling and no one minds a good fettling.

I will post some pictures as soon as I can if anyone is interested.

The stand was an 05 Blackbird stand.

Thanks for the info, the blackbird stand is available for about £20 off ebay, too, so good value.

I got my stand off an old VTR (Firestorm) and all it needed was the extra hole drilling. Works a treat.
I'm right 98% of the time so why worry about the other 3%?

Chaps.

I've gone the vtr route this morning. Paid £26.50 delivered from a honda breakers in Shipley.
That included the wire and plug.
I fitted the leg to the falco bracket and added a bit of weld to the bracket to stop the leg going to far forward, then disconnected the falco switch and simply plugged in the honda one (same plug) rerouted it bent the kick peg all working and in good order now.

I have a Busa stand fitted, solid and stable but does lean too far forward, only the back edge of the foot on the stand contacts, very short kickdown leg,
Rather have those teeny moans in place of the awful stock item !
Good to hear of yet another stand that will fit

just done the fireblade leg and happy with the result.

had too file down the weld of top pin but that was it.
if you can't ride it....
OR take it too bed...

Do i need the stand and bracket or just the stand?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

If you get the honda switch its a straight swap and no drilling, the plug Is the same just a different colour the lead is a bit longer but the extra can be 'lost' on the route through the frame.
