Just about given up.

#1 Post by ROCKOZ » Sun Apr 28, 2013 7:57 pm

Right. Not been on here for a while as I've moved house but the Falco still isn't fixed. In Fact every time I think I've found the problem a new one seems to realise.

Last week we fiddled and worked it out to be the coils under load. Bought some new coils and fiddled today. Seems to have broken more. No spark. No injector squirt.

Re-fitted the old ones.

Nothing.

What do I do?

I've totally fallen out of love with it now. It's been broken for longer than it's worked!

The fuel pump is priming and we though to test the HES by using an audio programme on the laptop to make sure it's reading.

My thoughts are now the ECU?

HELP
Just bought a Falco :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

ECU substitution a very easy job, I have a spare 'virgin ' one,
Think Blinkey also has one ( cheaper than mine ! )
Could also try the ever reliable method, ring Griff

general rule of thumb if something was working then you did something and it stopped undo what you did :smt017 If you undo what you think you did then you eithermissed something you didn't know you did or did something related to it .... like knock the kill switch or need to reset the ECU etc before replacing it ... disconnect all power to the ECU take the chip out and then a time later put it all back together after checking for physical signs of damage whilst it is out.. just a suggestion :smt001

Firstly thanks to Pete and Jay!

Still no luck though and I don't know what to do?
Is it really worth taking time off work and vanning it miles away to be worked on?
Today its sounded like a tapping/slapping noise as its being cranked over? Won't even start.
I'm thinking of looking into breaking it or selling it as spares/repairs.

:(

Any ideas?

Thanks Ollie

Leave it here so I can have a look at it. It won't cost the earth.

Do you fancy buying a new project?

I need to weigh up if it's worth trying to get it fixed or just sell as is?

How far away are you from the nearest diagnostics place?
Almost everything is fixable, and how much would you kick yourself if it turns out to be a crap earth or dodgey wire !

Nearest dealer is probably Peterborough? 30 miles maybe but what do they charge.......rather take it to Blinkey

I'm just at the point of throwing a chain round it and dragging it down the road behind the van then setting it on fire.

Slappy tappy noise cranking sounds as though it might be cam chain related ..... but diagnosing bike problems from written descriptions of noises is a very inaccurate science ..........

That said, that wouldn't be the reason for the issues you mention in the first post of this thread.

Hopefully nothing major but even if it is, second hand motors don't cost the earth.

right skipper I am absolutely not the best to advise you mechanically but I would say don't give up :smt002 .... if the noise is a screeching horrible noise with a loud clack it could be something catching on the sprag as it tries to start up but I am not saying thats likely. Just that if it is you want to sort it sooner rather than later as it may cost half as much if you don't need to replace the whole thing. poor battery or charge on starting is a culprit of that so i would check on that side of things.

So if you know that the battery has lots of charge and the circuit is good maybe its hust flooded ? :smt017

It's been cranked and cranked everytime we fiddled with something new. We even went to the extent of making a 61k ohm resistor to totally eliminate the tip over switch.
I think it is sprag clutch related but who knows. Will anyone ever know :(

Literally I've done a couple of hundred miles since I bought it back in Feb ish and its been off the road since. Am I just unlucky :(
