Derestricting an '04 Falco

#1 Post by beyond » Sun Mar 17, 2013 3:29 pm

So I'm following these instructions as it looks like the bike isn't derestricted! The wire hasn't been cut.

http://home.comcast.net/~sl_mille/derestrict.html

However, before I cut the wire I figured I'd do the airbox bit first, just to make sure. What I wanted to check with you guys is that this is the correct part to remove (plastic bit in the bottom right)?

Yep

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Great, thanks :)

Oddly, I went to cut the wire and it's already been done, so they only seem to have done half the job.

Thought I'd check out the chip while I was there, from reading various other posts online it appears I have a standard chip, is that assumption correct?

Lol

I think that you would get really excited about some others bikes.....

Renegade airlit would really make you redefine brutal.....

I'm doing the unscientific approach... All my mods are getting done the now. Bikes going from standard to Forza chip, open airbox with k&n, cans and gearing change -1 f & +1 r. Dying to get it done and on it.

No - It's definitely NOT that bit !
Think that bit is part of a resonator they put in the revised snorkel arrangement of the later bikes.

The restrictor plate sits above all of that lot in the bottom of the airbox underneath the air filter.

Air box with restrictor in place (The opening in the plate varies in size depending on market the bike is sold in)

..... just a shame you didn't say "Nope" to the question about the airbox restrictor.

.... another attempt at engineering advice by our forum first aider .........

Ah fuck, now to take it all apart again :*(

On the upside, compared to some of the bikes I've previously owned the Falco was easy to work on. To get to the airbox on the Triumph Street Triple you have to take the tank completely off the bike!

Thanks for the pictures D-Rider, those should be up on that site about derestriction. The photo he has put doesn't actually show what you're looking for, which isn't that helpful if you're technically challenged like me.
