Motus - a 1650cc OHV V4...

#1 Post by mangocrazy » Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:03 pm

On another forum the other day someone linked to this bike; it's the American-built Motus MST V4:
Image
In typical american style, it's a 1650cc V4 OHV (i.e. pushrod) engine producing 165 bhp with maintenance free valve train (hydraulic lifters etc.) -- i.e. half a 3.3 litre V8. It also has some pretty high-spec running gear (Ohlins forks, forged aluminium wheels, Brembo radial brakes).

It also has a humungous price tag - $30k for the base model, $36k for the 'R' model, which has Ohlins rear shock, 185 bhp motor, Brembo Monobloc calipers and carbon fibre (I kid you not) wheels. Torque on both models will rip your arms out and leave bleeding stumps. Allegedly.

I quite like it. Apart from the price (obviously).

I quite like it too

However with the same carbon (I kid you not) wheels and with Ohlins suspension front and rear, I hope I have at least some of the same experience at a far more economical price in my Falco

Looks like a Deauville, an ER6 and a Ducati Monster gangbanged a MotoGuzzi

It does look.. different though. Lot of money but seemingly a lot of bike..

Mirrors still look like an afterthought and wont see past your elbows..

If the engine didn't look so ugly; and if the panniers didn't look like an afterthought; and if the mirrors didn't look like an afterthought as well - and if I had the cash - I'd have one - the power characteristics seem very interesting

Hmmm - you are right about each of those - but I detect some CX500 Plastic Maggot DNA in there too. Those twisted cylinders are a real give-away

On the Motus site they have links to various Youtube clips, one of which is where they're track-testing it. It looks like it acquits itself surpringly well. It's certainly no Hardly Movingson...

Bit like a Guzzi Norge with two extra pots, nice but I think I prefer the Guzzi.

I can rule out ER6 and Guzzi DNA, It isn't covered in rust or broken.

Looks like a Beemer and a Guzzi had mad mad sex when on drugs, then a Ducatti joined the affray.
Like it
Looked at the Motus pics on thier site, from the front, the black one looks like a KTM RC8 after too many years on an American diet

Looks like it can't make up its mind which part of the biking fraternity it's supposed to appeal to. However, made in US and sold in US, and overpriced - I guess it'll appeal to americans.
