It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world than 30 years early in the next
In theory this nis a good thing.
In reality, if the police or DVLA make a mistake then the person involved will face an almost insurmountable battle to regain their license, I know, I've been there more than once.
DVLA is such a massive lumbering dinosuar of a machine, signals from the brain stand little hope of reaching the tail.
There is no onus or incentive for DVLA to be accurate or competitive as a buisness as they have the monopoly

seems risky to me. look how the terrorism acts are misused - give plod a bit of lip and you get your licence taken. summary justice.
where my F-I-L lived in spain they gave a regular test to all older drivers - reactions and risk perceptions tested on a PC screen, eye tests , hearing tests etc. Why cant we have something like that rather than giving arbitrary powers to a police officer?

As I read the post above, I kinda went with the comment from fatboy, but then I read the news item and it changed my opinion. It may be a big problem trying to get a mistake by the police rectified, but Cassie McCord and her family can never have undone what happened to her.
I've seen a couple of cases in my life where I've thought that the police/authorities needed to stop someone getting behind the wheel of a car. I'm in my early sixties and an IAM motorcycle member. I hope I have the sense to recognise when it's time to quit, but it will be very difficult I'm sure.

Mango and Lazarus made good points, a scally simply does not give a toss with regard to the legality.
Sounds like the Spanish have got thier heads round this one Lazarus.
A family has been devastated, because somehow this arrogant old bastard was still driving, the system allowing him to drive when he clearly was not fit.
Sorry but speeding up the license revokation process cannot bring that lass back, will not stop joy riders.
Too little, too late, too much margin for error.
Take a tip from the Spanish plod ?????
