Galaxy S2 advice, please

New to smartphones.

I've just got a Galaxy S2, and although it seems quite impressive, I'm not happy with the battery life. I've seen that it's got a number of apps running, but I don't know which I can safely turn off, without adversely affecting the phone's performance. I've got 'system power saving mode' turned on. Bluetooth is off, as is Wifi at the moment. Help, please; and any other advice for extending battery life.

Also, recommendations, please, for a car charger, and a charger to use on the bike.

And any recommendations for a case/cover - I find the phone too smooth and slippery for peace of mind.

Not sure with those but usually you can go through the settings and turn off any background services for apps not to allow notifications etc and change brightness in different modes and auto dimmer etc. I wouldn't worry about wifi because I use it all the time. The general rule I find is if it gets you through the day it's alright alright :)

Cases are much of a muchness I use a flip case because I drop the phone a lot so like to protect the screen but you may find a skin and a Matt NOT gloss screen protector film plenty

How do I know? Well its easy Galaxy chocolate tastes like its got a sandy beach in it and the phone is shit cos it is like a labour politician, works when it wants to.

Or like the labour mp for stoke who was the MEP at the same time hard working fellow that he was. Or the mayor who was head of the CAB at the same time all full time jobs just can't imagine where the poor souls found time for sleep

Indeed she did, but whats 3 weeks when you look at so many politicians (regardless of affiliation) who accept bribes (free holidays etc), I use the Labour Party as the most obvious sign of this event (Tony Bliar) asd they got their fingers burnt the most in media circles.

Agreed, so few of them set a a good example of probity; can't think of any noteworthy politicians I'd hold up as a role model.

Oh, get a car charger cradle - use it when ever you get in the car even for 15 minutes.....

Get a spare car charger - fit a socket to the bike......

I'd advise getting a different phone, I did and it only needs recharging every 5-6 days

Well, Gio, it was free. Went in to the Orange shop to negotiate a better contract (mine was an old Raccoon plan - really poor value for money) - new one is £10 p.m. less, unlimited texts, 750 mb data, more realistic talk time for my needs - 200 mins, tho' I rarely go over 100.

However, I'd be grateful for suggestions for an alternative - you've obviously looked into this more deeply than I - I'll keep my eyes open for bargains.

With smart phones, the more you use them, the shorter the battery life

Personally, as all know, I use apple iPhones - for me and my needs there is no other option (I have been using apple computers for a few years so.....)

The android 4x phones are great bits of kit, and the windows 8 phones are good in the main

BUT all eat battery life as you do more

Want long battery life, then use a standard phone - calls and text only. Want to embrace other stuff - plan accordingly

Now the battery's been almost exhausted and re-charged, it's lasting longer. As is to be expected. I've turned a few things off, following the advice in the Samsung forum link Pete posted, plus a few others from a TechRadar review. But I still think it's a bit crap - these smartphones may be wonderful gadgets, but they seem to have out-paced current battery technology. It's on a par with another of my pet peeves - fuel consumption of modern bikes; most current mid to large capacity bikes rarely seem capable of more than 45 mpg, which, IMHO, is piss poor
