sproggy passed her driving test!!!

My darling daughter (sproggy as i call her) has just passed her driving test.
Now comes the question"what car to get her" ???

And "holy schmoly" have you seen the cost of insurance (and its GOING UP inline with boys insurance on the 21st december).
and just in time for that other expensive time of year "chrimbo"

So the question is.......anyone got a cheap ickle runabout with MOT and tax,that they wanna get rid off ???

Spare a thought for me - I've got my 3 boys insured on one of our cars.

Theoretically, if the girls are having to pay more, then boys should in future have to pay less than they do now in order for the insurance companies to still raise the same revenue to fund their claims.

..... so, what do you reckon are the chances of that happening ? ..........

as far as im aware.....girls is going up by 25% and lads going down by 10%..........allegedly !!!!!!!!!!!!

Micra, Corsa, Ka, good forgiving small cars,good chance of finding older cheaper ones,Astra, bit bigger also very forgiving.
Volvo 340 bloody brilliant little tank, 1.4 model cheaper to insure,maybe hard to find now
Be warned,small cheap to run motors are sought after and hold thier price,but my mate just bought a butt ugly Toyota Something, 1.4 Nreg 9months MOT for £275.
I always find ' in a hurry ' buys are usually the worst

I did hear a couple of years ago that the Ka was the best for insurance for youngsters ..... though I don't have a Ka ....

A lad I know did a bit of hunting. The cheapest insurance he got was for a Peugeot 306 1.9 diesel.

Well when my daughter passes she's going to get a Smart car, the insurance is cheap as its considered a shopping trolley, ie doesn't go far, plus its cheap to repair (evostick and a few wood screws

) and it can only carry 2, so no idiots in the back jumping about.

Older Micras are great, they go on for ever and don't cost a lot to maintain.

Insurance is ridiculous - I think youngsters should have their insurance partly paid by the government if they're in work as otherwise they may not be able to get to work, specially in rural areas like here.

Yaris, Fiesta, corsa etc... Or you could go French which are cheap but lets be honest, if you get a bad one it costs a fortune to fault find in electrics...
Insurance is scary expensive these days.
My mrs passed her test the other week and can't get insured on our current car with current insurance. 2.0 "02" Passat...

If you go for a Corsa or Fiesta it shoudn't be more than about £2.5K a year.
Sad thing is that young drivers stay young for a very long time. My daughter Jo is 29 and putting her on Terri's Mitsubishi Colt 1.3 insurance (and the Punto before that), only put it up by £300 to £450 for the last few years. This was in spite of the fact we made it clear she has had her own car for years, (with no claims and a clean licence) and will only occasionally drive the Colt.
This was extra stupid because the Colt quote was higher than the cover on my BMW 123D.
This year we finally managed to get it down to a more reasonable cost by changing to Sainsbury's Insurance, but most company's charges now only start to drop when "Young Drivers" hit 30.

(Just back on the 1st line comment, Jo's ex husband paid just over £2.5K 10 years ago on a 1.2 Corsa).
