Foot rest snapped off!

#1 Post by bigun » Sun Apr 15, 2007 1:40 pm

Hi,

Just thought I'd flag this up. My right hand footrest snapped off yesterday as I left the hotel in the Isle of Man. Fortunately for me it was outside the hotel at 5mph and i could pick it up and not at 130mph on the mountain on Friday 13th. Could've been a different story!

Anyway, it was the bolt through the hanger and into the footrest that had snapped, managed to patch it up sufficiently to get home (pinched a nut of my dads bike and used the snapped part of bolt still left in the foot rest. Got me home anyway!) On closer inspection today it appears the hanger is threaded aswell as the footrest itself. The threads in the hanger however have gone, how i don't know but the bolt pushes straight through now. Got a new bolt and put it all back together earlier and all seems ok (got a zip tie through just in case).

Just a word of warning for you all tho, please check your footrests sometime as I never thought about em until now and, like I say, it could have been a different story at silly speeds.

Cheers

Bigun
