HELP NEEDED

#1 Post by cornish mafia » Wed Oct 24, 2012 9:44 am

OK...so I finally get the back brake working good enough and yet again the bloody bike decides she's not finished with me !!!!!

Yesterday after fitting the brake and everything looking good I fired her up no problem at all...............all good I thought !! Was having a look at a new end can and link pipe so after fitting that and making sure all is good I went to hit the start button and NOTHING and I mean nothing !!! All it's doing is the clocks come on and obviously reset but no start up noise or anything kicking in at all ........Side stand light comes on and goes off when moving the stand......could it be that ?

I dis-connected the battery and re-connected for the classic "it'll start now " but yet again nothing.....

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE any help would as always be appreciated .......

So to recap , she started good then I changed the end can and now nothing............link pipe and end can SHOULDN'T change anything....should it ??
Been home just under three weeks and haven't ridden it once due to it being a complete bit#h this time home.........testing times for me and this bike as I really am that close to binning it and going back to some less temperamental.........GSXR THOU...

Check the obvious things first like kill switch, sidestand switch, is it in neutral (have you done a Hanna?) etc.

Hi D

Kill switch seems to work well moving in and out OK , light on and off on side stand so figure that should be OK and yes she's in NEUTRAL....

Annoying as hell as it started fine no probs at all then turned it off for about ten mins then turned it on and now nothing ....... i am a broken man right now !! :smt009

Also i'm not getting a fuel pump kicking in either or any other news come to think of it ...........the clocks just come on

no idea but mine wasnt cutting out when I put the sidestand down so a quick wash and iis working again maybe similar in recverse? had something else where the tilt switch thingy under the seat was either the wrong way up or a bit off the hook and that buggered me up for a while both my fault BTW
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

From memory (which may be wrong) the tilt switch doesn't kill the starter motor

Haven't done anything to the bilke apart from back brake and the exhaust ...........just going into the fuse box now and ifngers crossed find something in there. ?

I'm hoping it could be something simple like a fuse as like i said it started OK turned it off but now nothing is kicking in at all when trying to fire it up...
Battery is always on charge so good strength there also ......

Will report in later .................AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!! :smt013 :smt010 :smt009

You've got a problem - no amount of new fuses will cure it and PLEASE, for the love of God, DO NOT put a heavier fuse in - smoke will result

You've gotta find where the short is, plain and simple

Diag 1 is a red herring - it shows throttle position sensor output (which should be 0 WHEN EVERYTHING IS ADJUSTED FOR IT TO BE CHECKED) showing 1 is not abnormal,

As has been said if the fuse is blowing you have a short - maybe you have some wiring where the insulation has worn.
Dose it blow as soon as you plug it in or when you turn on the ignition or when you press the starter button.
This info will help

It blows as soon as i press the starter button......i replace the fuse and things start looking good and there's now whirling sound as if things will start but as soon as i touch the start button it blows..............another thing is my PC111 isn't working either so i unplug all that and did it again but still nothing and again the fuse blows......

Haven't touched anything else apart from the back brake switch ?! I've even dis-connectted that as well to the same result ......like i said it started fine then next time nothing and now have that diag 1 on the screen.............Even tried plugging the two lose wires together expecting something but nothing happened... Also i've noticed tha the starter button doesn't feel right....just noticed that .....doesn't feel as springy as it should be ??

Once again ...........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :smt017 :smt013 :smt010

OH and anzacinexile i did try the bigger fuse with the same resukt but it's now out as i didn't want it burning to the ground just yet ......YET !!!
