Gabro chip reqd ? ?

#1 Post by fatboy » Wed Sep 12, 2012 6:33 pm

Now got the Falco running but with some issues, some existed before (bike not been run in anger for 2 ish years)
Im running carbon SL end cans (gen Aprilia) and a K&N,the issues are the bike starts well from cold but hates anything from 35 to 80 degrees temp,it seems to need precise baccking off of fast idle and mega careful slow throttle response or stalling/ flooding/non starting tantrums
Would I benefit from a new chip or is this a TB tweak
must add I know nothing of bikes history but it pulls very well, indicated 148 @6,000rpm ( on a dis used airfield of course )

Well firstly it needs the clocks to be set to mph rather than the kph that they are showing at present (easily understood as it really isn't going to be capable of 259 mph at the "safe" max revs of 10,500 rpm)
The users manual tells you how to do this .... if you don't have the manual, download it from the Aprilia website:

As for chip and TB balance - probably both worth considering

one of the few times I agree with Andy ;) mainly because when mine showed 136 at that airfield there was no way it was 6 k revs ... Not sure how many it was as I had my eyes closed and couldn't tell by the noise as I was screaming too loud to hear them

Ah yes the brown smell if fear I remember it well

At 6000rpm with a 15 tooth front sprocket in top gear i am sure when i was at the air field i was around 100mph :smt017

i think I would start off by changing the fuel and adding some injector cleaner

I assume that the K&N is new? if not then clean it

yes to TB synce etc

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

the dis used airfield the conditions were perfect for a good run up,that particular stretch of airfield easy to achieve 130 (mph),fast lead in then crest small rise, long slight down hill straight.
I mentioned it because the figures seem ridiculous not because I want to be ridiculed
as I said I know nothing of the bikes history re any tuning mods, its quick, leaves a GSXR 750 from a standing start on the airfield until he caught up with me in Simm City traffic where he is faster

..... though I'm certain that at those revs, the numbers you are seeing are kph

In no way ridiculing anyone skipper but I went down to the airfield again and mine ran about 8k plus up to 125 IAS (indicated Airfield Speed ;) ) and on the run back 6 k was about 100IAS. Mine has not long had some service work so just trying to give you a comparison and. Have a smile ... Which I definitely did this morning :smt003

clock display in kph would match the rpm.
Idont usually look at the clocks when cruising at altitude because it gets a bit busy. that particular day I saw 2 temorary speed measuring devices that someone had carelessly left across the runway so I gave it max fun factor, glancing down at clocks whilst applying landing brakes as the taxying strip rapidly ran out.
I only saw the digits, didnt look for the 3 small letters after the numerals.
Have had previous ECU problems......
Main thing it runs again :smt002
