Swingarm Linkage bearing replacement.

#1 Post by Fausto » Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:42 pm

Hi all. Took mine apart today to clean and grease and had a nice suprise. All were in good nick except the swingarm to linkage bearings which were missing several needles on one side! Didn't fall out so must have been missing since the last oaf took it apart :smt009

So - I will have to replace them but in the meantime I took a few from the good side and put them in the lacking side to balance things up a little. Now there are 2 or 3 missing from both sides. WILL I DIE ??

Can't really see it as a major problem short term - I have done over 3000 miles on it as was and hadn't noticed a problem.

I will order genuine replacements having read previous posts about pattern needle roller bearings but can anyone who has done this advise me please.

Do they press in and out easily?

Will I need to order new dust/oil seals as well?

If so, how many? 2?

The 'pin' looks ok. can I reuse it?

Look forward to your views. Thanks. :smt017

Oh I think it's becoming obvious that I am a leader in the cheap stakes !! :smt003

Seriously though I will replace them as even with a full compliment of needles they were looking dry and dirty and I'd have replaced them automatically.

However....... if you are serious I could put a few more in and feel more comfortable about safety until Aprilia can get me new ones.

Looking through the AF1 forums this missing needles thing appears quite common. I am less worried about riding mine for now. However..

Will be ordering new bearings on monday.

Anyone done this job ?

I will order 2 bearings and 2 seals. Presume this is all I need??
