Is it simply a coincidence?

#1 Post by TC » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:14 am

My daughter who is not 20 until September has just finished 2 weeks Jury service, which to be fair she found interesting and useful as she is studying law.

Yesterday, the case she was involved in was concluded, and when she got home she was able to talk to us about the case as she has now been discharged.

Both my wife and I mentioned that into our 50's we have never been called up for Jury service, although for a number of years I was exempt because of my Police service (although I think even this has changed now).

Anyway, blow me down, what lands on my doorstep? You got it. I have been summonsed for Jury service in September

Coincidence? :smt017

Does that mean I've one coming too? Like you, my wife & I are both in our 50s and neither have ever been called upon.

At one time I'd have been quite keen to do this but these days I can think of many things I'd rather be doing than hearing a couple of over-paid lawyers arguing the toss about something.

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Been a few years since I did it and the exclusions were much as you'd expect.
Apart from something like, you don't have to attend if you're mad. If you are not sure if this applies to you ask your doctor.

I enjoyed doing it but only got one half day case that didn't belong in a courtroom.

Im exempt. Would love to do it but i think the sign i'd put on the front of the jury box might get me sacked.

Am yet to be called upon. Some people manage to get away with it, but hope I get to do it. Mostly for the experience and get a good look at our legal system. Knowing my luck I'd get a case involving some idiot with a naughty dog. :smt005

Perhaps if the records show a misspent youth on bikes that has endured with advancing years,we are deemed to be unsuitable as jurors. I'm also in my 50s and have never been called.

i got called 2 years ago, what a waste of time, though two weeks off in the sun was nice, literally sitting around most days then had a 1 week trial right in the middle. found em guilty though :smt003

I've never been called and I believe that now I'm 65 I'm considered too old and stupid...........

Don't see why BG - after all extra age limitation certainly doesn't apply to the judges and magistrates

Agree with both of the above - but not enough to fight about it!
