Rear view...

#1 Post by Kwackerz » Wed Dec 20, 2006 4:11 pm

Bored as I am, I have been looking at reversing cameras.

http://www.vangadgets.co.uk/index.html? ... system.htm

I reckon, these may overcome certain bikes' (like my TT's) crap rearview capability.

I can only assume, that they'd be legal for use, as there are big cars that use them on the road (Mercedes trialled them I think? and some sportscars)

This would do away with the need for rear view mirrors, streamlining the bike a bit at the same time.

Im sure it'd be possible to fit it to a sportsbike, defibately a bike such as Gio's big BMW thing.
Prices seem quite reasonable too. :smt001

Maybe it would be possible to move the camera to the front andtake the feed out to a recording device for trackdays?

I think you need to fit better mirrors thats all, as fish eye camera pics really suck

Some Nissans use them (Primera?), but as they are viewed through a TV screen and the law says something about drivers not being able to watch TV while going forward, they only display when reverse is selected. I would think this legal point would have to be overcome before they could be used on bikes.

Other than that I think it’s a step forward. I’ve had mirrors that are completely useless through positioning and/or vibration, so how can a camera be any worse? You could mount the screen with the clocks behind the fairing, it’d be quite neat.

It'd have to be a big screen as well, at least twice as big as most digital clock type of instruments as I think little dots approaching you would be very off putting (could be plod)
