Cleaning throttle bodies...suggestions please

Hi guy's, i'm pulling my hair out

i just don't know whether to do the home made airbox mod with cutting the lid off or just slap in a k+n.
Iv'e been using the search box and reading old threads until i'm almost seeing double lol
One side say's airbox mod......DO IT

and get a Garbo chip etc to match, the other side say's just whack in a K+N and give it a good TB balance (which it'll get anyway)
I lifted the tank tonight to try and inspire me do get my hands dirtier than normal lol but while in there the TB's looked at bit mucky around the butterflys so any recomandations for cleaning or just a spray of carb cleaner and a wipe with a cloth.
Thinking about this airbox mod iv'e been looking on evil bay for spare box's and found a gen1 rsv box allready done, perhaps worth a bid. The mille box and falco box have different lids i found while searching but this wouldn't be an issue would it.

evo or renegade air kit will give you around 5bhp and a hard on from the induction roar

K&N will give you aroun 2-3 bhp

that help?

Do you have any links to the Renegade and evo kits? I'm not sure what they are. A friend of mine has an aluminium spacer that fits between the top and bottom halfs of the box to increase the area from his old RSV.

Where do people stand on the MWR filter kit? This looks a nice bit of kit.

where to start....

in simple terms:

the dutch filter you linked too is a variant of the K&N if i have read it correctly
I have never used one, nor am i aware of one being used on the falco - does not mean it would not work - just no idea !

the evo or evoluzzione kit works by using the underside of the petrol tak as the airbox - basically it is a metal shape that fits over the lower half of the airbox - the top half having been removed. This metal plate holds a lipped piece of rubber that is smeared with vaseline - this sticks to the underside of the tank. A full evo kit should also come with a new, taller air filter that is held in place by the tank. You also need to remove the piece of foam from under the tank as you do not want that dropping into the TB's!

The renegade system is different - the complete air box is removed, and a plate fits on top of the TB's. The plate has a huge piper air filter that covers the inlet stacks - effectively there is no air box :) you also need to reroute the airbox breather to either over the front sprocket or to put a breather filter on it to look cool.....

Evoluzzione no longer exist - Ken, the owner is just going through a very messy, and at times public divorce. I believe that Griff has some copied version of this kit for sale

Jorge pulled the plug on renegade a few years ago - and his kits are like rocking horse poo! even second hand they make three figures.... It may well be worth while ringing southern cross aprilia to find one though...

so - thats the choices BUT

have a search through here and you will find how people have made their own versions of them....

For the record, I have run K&N, Evo and Renegade - there are rumours that there may even have been a standard air filter in my bike at some time......

for whats its worth, I see hell freezing over before i stop using the renegade system!

No its not!

I am currently waiting a callback from Don.. theyve got one in the racebike and.... well, i have a man searching the back store at the moment

I will point out that if they have more than one brand new, original one kicking about, that they will cost an absolute arm and a leg as SC was to the best of my knowledge, the only outlet other than Renegade themselves. If they asked for 200 quid posted, i wouldnt bat an eyelid..

May I just ask the hobbit who suggested that phone call being made?

And who was aware of where and when such rare things could be found?

Noale under Coventry may have the original bits - hempnall skunkworks knows where other stuff may be found

Like where a brand new crated falco is :)

I did know about rene stocks potentially held in uk..

just im lazy and took about 4 years to phone

And crated Falco? Stuff that, I found the unused immaculate condition Renegade stainless can, with DB killer, that fits an RSV, still in it's box!

Now thats RARE.

Indeed - as you are aware, I do have a Rene airkit in stock. One day I'll get round to fitting it. Still got to:

A) decide whether to fit the 54mm TBs with it (now I'm going the long way to work, that's more likely than it was - but still far from convinced they are much more than a quick-action throttle)
B) find the time to do anything to the bike

Must try the rene chip at some point too ..........

I'm not "too" concerned with extra bhp....who am i trying to kid But that induction roar sounds just the ticket

so open box i think its going to be

hoping to get her to run nice and smooth or as smooth as a big v-twin can
Also got a set of higher bars to go on so that'll take a little bit of fettling too, pity i didn't get them before my last trip but hey ho
