The last piece of the former Massey Ferguson works in Tile Hill, Coventry. A sad day.. But that's progress I suppose.

It was a pretty useless building to be fair. The lift's and stairs went up a central column which made actual floor space quite tight. I remember going up there with my primary school in the early 90's and it was pretty much unused then. It was only a matter of time before they blew the tower up. Shame, as it boasted some of the best views in Coventry.

Which, if you think about it, is a true endorsement of the engineering capability found in Coventry - they found it worth bothering about to try to put it out of action.

I don't think the swamps came in for quite the same bombardment .....

There were a few dropped on Reading but not that many - well that's what my Dad told me.

They actually evacuated a good number of Londoners to Reading as it wasn't a significant target.

That reminded me of my late Grandfather. I'll never forget how he told me, when I was a boy, of his admiration for the citizens of Coventry, and how they continued working in factories without roofs after the bombings. I did eventually get to visit the city and was quite moved, especially by the old and new cathedrals.

Looked all over on top of that hill. One of the highest spots in Cov.
