FALCO WHEEL COLOUR
Hi All
Managed to get myself a nice set of the blue OZ wheels for my Falco.
My Falco has the burgundy red and grey colour scheme with black frame.
Now should I keep the wheels the OZ blue or have them coated black.
With the blue will their be to many colours going on?
The wheels are packed and ready to go to Triple S.
Mick

Welcome to the site Mick.
I have a set going on my black Falco this weekend, and they will stay blue, as I reckon it is the only colour to have them.
Can see how it might be a bit different with yours, but I'd still try them that way first.
Post some pics up when you've done.

I always like them in blue, except my bronze ones which are the exception.

IMO rims should be clearly different from black. To my mind wheels (and engine) is what principally defines a vehicle, so should in no way be discreet/understated. Since tyres are quintessentially black, rims should stand out from them. - Smart rims are the vehicle's jewellery...
Assuming you don't want regular silver (since you ask, and with that bike color scheme) - how about shadow chrome , a term with popularity in car wheel fashionista at some point?
Or of course (subtle?) gold if the rest of the bike doesn't clash:

I'm with Simon on this. IMHO, dark/black painted wheels make a bike look heavy and earth-bound; silver or gold lifts a bike, makes it look lighter and more airborne.SimonDk wrote:IMO rims should be clearly different from black. I like the Shadow Chrome; it would look good on the Futura's wheels
It flies sideways through time

It also means wheels are harder to keep looking clean... more work for me.

Yes they are the earlier OZ wheels, spoke with Triple S, they have done these wheels before, they don't use a high heat process.
Got to decide.
Wheels bearings all out etc, wheels ready to go.
If they were 10 out of 10 mint then I wouldn't, but they are about a 7 and I want them 10.
What I don't want to do is fit the bearings, put new tyres on then wish I had changed the colour.
My original wheels are a dark grey metallic.
I was going for gloss black. I had my RS250 wheels done gloss black and they look good.
But I do like the original blue.
For what its worth my other half said they don't go - women!!!!

Funnily enough, I have a Flamingo Red/Anthracite Falco and have also acquired a set of Oz wheels, which I sent to Triple-S for powder coating. I had mine done in metallic Black (I really wanted gunmetal/anthracite, but they didn't offer it), and it looks really good. But then I do prefer the stealth look.
I thought about keeping the original Royal Blue colour, as it is a lovely colour and the wheels were 9.5/10, but I decided that there were just too many colours going on with that scheme.
I'd certainly think about silver, and if you're planning on a set of Ohlins forks in the bike's future, then Gold would obviously be an option.
Triple S are the dog's bollocks when it comes to powder coating, I have to say. The quality of their work is second to none.

I've put the wheels on the bike, don't look to bad in blue, but still not sure.
Taken some pictures
How do you add images to a post on a mac?
Mango - do you have any pictures of your bike. I probably agree, to many colours going on, but the blue of the wheels is nice.
Yes silver, but would need to see it. I am putting a RSV swingarm on, so thought the silver swingarm would contrast with the black of the wheels.
I used to have red Firestorm with silver wheels, which suited the bike really well.
Decisions...decisions

The way I went with my Falco was to get the swingarm (standard Falco, but same applies to Mille) coated black(ish) to match the frame. Having a black frame and plain ali swingarm just looked pants to me ( you may disagree of course).
Then I bought a hugger and had it painted as close a match to the red as I could get, which 'lifted' the back end colour-wise quite a bit. With the Mille swing-arm this doesn't apply of course, as a hugger is superfluous.
Ideally I would have liked to get the Oz wheels coated in a perfect match to the Flamingo Red, but Triple S didn't have a good enough match - close, but no cigar, in my view. So I went for metallic black.
The thing is, it's all a very personal, subjective thing, so go with what floats your boat. Trust your judgement and go for it...!
Unfortunately I only fitted the wheels last weekend (the bike is 70 miles away from where I live, at present) and I forgot to take my camera with me. So no pics, unfortunately.
But I do feel that the blue wheels (lovely though they are) don't work with our colour scheme Falcos. They're great with the black and the blue colour schemes and would probably work with silver as well, but with ours?
Nah. Sorry.

Re refinishing, the shadow chrome googling also threw up this company http://www.rimfurbish.co.uk/
