Hell Andy you must be at your wits end. Hope Joy is feeling ok and you both start to make some progress and you can keep things together. Best wishes and we are all rooting for you all.

Cheers Dave. We're doing OK thanks (though my eye is a PITA). Tomorrow I'll go to see my mate who is an optician. I think he'll take a peer in there and tell me what he sees.

As for Joy ...... I got on to the hospital at the beginning of the week and pushed strongly for an appointment with the doctor for today - and succeeded in getting this.
It is confirmed that it is cancer and seems 99% certain it's a secondary from the breast cancer she had before. TBH it's what we've expected all along so it's no shock - though obviously concerning.
The next stage is that she will be referred to the cancer specialists who will be able to tell us more about it and how it will be treated. They will do the referral tomorrow so I expect we'll get an appointment very soon.

Thanks again for your concern for us.

So, I went to see my friend the optician today and spent quite a long time there. He seems to think that I have a tear in my retina and it looks as though I may have some degradation in peripheral vision in my right eye.

I need to go back to see him again tomorrow to repeat some things and a few more bits and pieces and it sounds as though he's going to refer me back to the hospital.
Shame - I hoped he was going to say "give it a couple of days and you'll be as right as rain" (and, for a change, it's raining a lot today).

Oh yes, the police phoned during the week to tell me they'd done all they could in their investigation to find the chap that assaulted me but were now ceasing active investigation and the case would be kept on file.
Not good news for the next person he encounters.

EDIT:
It's now "tomorrow" .... I've been back to my optician friend and the news is much better.
He no longer thinks my retina is torn - he'd not seen a tear but pigment spots that often indicate it. He's read up more on this and thinks they are the result of the trauma my eye has been through.
The peripheral vision was checked again today and has checked out fine .... so it's now just waiting for the floaters in my eye to settle which should get rid of the fog and (hopefully) all will be well.

The other useful thing is that I've also come away with some contact lenses. I'd been thinking about them for some time as when the light is a bit poor I need to wear my glasses and on the bike they fog up almost instantly. The contacts should avoid this. I'll only pop them in when I need to for riding the bike (I seldom need glasses anyway) and for other situations I'll stick with the specs.

All in all a good optician visit ! :smt003
