A small update as I know some of you must be well in to the DT's by now!
New shocks are in! Starting to look like a motorcycle again.. Well, almost. They're about 1-1/2" shorter than the previous ones.. For some reason, the former owner decided to fit really long shocks on the back. I always thought the back end was too high.

Don't worry peeps, I've not given up. I'm at the stage of waiting for parts to arrive and be collected. Lot's of cleaning going on in preparation for the clinical re-build of that wonderful Triumph 650 twin. Hopefully not too much longer before a proper update of progress.

After a few weeks of waiting around and having to sort other little issues out, this journal will start to take pace again very soon.
Yokes are on.
And a box full of goodies landed at work today.
The crank should be done next week and the cases will be having the bushes and bearings changed over the weekend. Bottom end can go back together then.
Bring on the summer! (please!

A bit more done tonight. It may not look like much, but fitting that stand required a bit of effort and some re-engineering of the mountings. Still it's on. And boy what a difference it makes.

Crank is back!
Freshly ground crank journals and nice dynamically balanced crank. Rods and pistons all weighed and equalised. Now to get that bottom end built. Marvellous.

Oh yes. Balanced on the mass and ends. Something that can't be done statically.. Which was factory standard.
I can't wait either.

Still loads to go, but starting to take pace quite nicely now.

Proving that there is more than one way to skin a cat..
Removal of the outer main roller bearing race was getting tiresome. Traditional methods weren't working, and I didn't want to risk damaging the cases. So in the end it was decided to cut a mild-steel disk out on the waterjet, and weld it to the top of the race. A quick blast on the arbour press and out it popped.
Right, can get on with getting the new bushes and bearings in now.

It's a combo of what I've got at home and at work. But my works is so close to where I live, it's almost a second home. I've love to have a mill, lathe and press at home, but having free reign of the machine tools at work is the next best thing.

Great thinking Will, got it sorted!
Haven't got any welding gear, or a press, but would never have thought of that, would have been stuck warming the cases with a blow lamp or something.
It's nice watching an engineer at work.

Thanks Howard. Not wanting to sound big headed, but it is nice to hear that my efforts are appreciated. I do sometimes forget that others don't have access to the kit I have, and therefore think nothing of it.
Update.
10-04-13
New main bearing outer race and new cam bushes fitted. The eagle eyed among you will notice the two bushes in the 'primary' side are a little proud of the case. Done on purpose to make sure when I ream them, the ream goes all the way through the bush. I'll press the remainder in when done. The observant will also notice a lack of timing side main bearing.. That'll be added once all swarf from reaming has been cleared away.
