Hi everyone & thanks.
We're just back from the hospital and Joy's just gone to bed for a rest - until I wake her in half an hour when she will be allowed to eat and drink again.
Fortunately we got a lift over to Leicester - on Monday I did something to my ribs to put them back to being more painful than they had been since the day after I was attacked - so driving would have been difficult.
The EBUS bronchoscopy procedure on Joy was performed successfully and they now have a sample to study .... so now it's the wait for the results. I imagine we are unlikely to hear anything before the team looking after Joy hold their weekly meeting next Thursday (18th) - or maybe after that.

Thanks again for the prayers and good wishes .... please continue with the same for the result of the biopsy - that it will be as OK as it might be. We're not expecting an easy few months of treatment but hope that we might at least have something for which treatment can be effective.

I've updated the situation about Joy in a response on the thread about my injuries.
I'm not trying to bombard the site with this but I guess I should really update this thread too - though you don't need to read it all twice.

We didn't get the progress we hoped for last week as the results from the EBUS had not come back from Leicester in time.
We were told that they should be back for today's meeting of the team in Coventry and would be discussed then but due to next Monday (the usual day for feedback) being a Bank Holiday, we would not hear anything before a special clinic on 1st Sept.
On Monday I phoned the hospital and pushed strongly for an appointment with the doctor today after they had had their team meeting as we were unhappy with the continuing delays - and succeeded in getting this. That, at least has saved a week.

So today we visited the hospital and the doctor who has led things so far confirmed that it is cancer and seems 99% certain it's a secondary from the breast cancer she had before.
Part of the delay is that they needed to compare the slides from the biopsy they did in Leicester with those from Joy's breast cancer 12 yrs ago. Those slides had to be retrieved from Wales - they had been sent there as they were more than 10yrs old.
TBH the news is what we've expected all along so it's no shock - though obviously concerning.
The next stage is that she will be referred to the cancer specialists who will be able to tell us more about it, how it will be treated and the prognosis. They will do the referral tomorrow so I expect we'll get an appointment very soon.

Sorry it was not good news Andy and hope that you can get treatment sorted as soon as possible, our thoughts are with you both.
Keep positive, as I mentioned earlier, when my wife Terri had her op, and we knew the size of the massive cyst, we both feared the worst, but in her case it was contained within the cyst itself and she is now clear.
We are all thinking of you.

Glad to hear this Howard - really glad that things worked out for you and Terri.

Unfortunately for Joy, they can't remove her tumour surgically and as a secondary cancer it cannot be cured. We expect that it will be chemo to shrink it and then to try to manage it to keep it at bay and stop it spreading further.
At least the PET CT scan showed no activity elsewhere at present - that, at least, is a bit of good news.

I realise that Andy from what you said earlier, I was just re-using it as an example of a positive outcome. Things have moved on a lot treatment wise in the last 10 year or so since Terri was treated and there are a lot more good results of some kind. Terri's brother and his wife have both had cancer problems in the last couple of years as well and both are doing very well after treatment.
