Hi,

It was my advice last time, not to drop tyre pressures in road tyres for the track and since it has been a long time since I was on a track myself, I confirmed it with the guy who fits my tyres. He's a tyre man and supplies tyres at meetings etc.

Tyre pressures are raised to cool and lowered to get them hot. Basically road tyres warm up quick and on the track tend to overheat. So if you drop road tyre pressures they get too hot and really shred up which makes people think they are really riding hard. In fact they are just tearing up £10 notes and going slower than they would otherwise have been able to.

Race tyes are designed to run hot, need to be warm before they work etc. and are different.

If the tyre is working in its ideal range it should have a mat finnish and not be all torn or diveted with rubber streaming off the edges.

Any way give it a couple of laps and then get on the gass gently as soon as your off the brakes, feel for the slide and it won't surprise you when it happens. Some thing else might .....any way enjoy Cadwell is a great track and my last visit saw me manage a double sumersault entering Mansfield......
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

I'm expecting it to be wet, so I've got my 'keep it smooth' head on. I'm going to treat it as a wet riding lesson, taking the pace up very gently without the hassle of washdown, white lines, diesel and on coming traffic. I was origionally wondering if my tyres were going to be sticky enough (we booked it when it was hot and sunny) but if it's going to be wet, I should be just fine with Z6's at road pressures, probably happpier than the 'fast' dudes on dry track rubber :smt003

And I just orderd this to hopefully come in time. I got my wrists slapped at croft for not having a rev counter so couldnt hold 5000rpm for noise test and they said cadwell were strickter. Might get spanked :smt118 Image

What sort of bike you using? I can't remember ever seeing a bike without a rev counter (C90's and scooters accepted) Even my old BSA 250 from 1963 had a rev counter.

Not advice but after my 1st track day I have always taped up the speedo, it can be off putting. You only need the rev counter.

Let's hope it's a good one
