I didn't have a headstock stand either ..... a bit of improvising .....

Last time I tried that I ended up with a falco on its side and an order for a new mirror and screen, which then led to a new fairing as the one on the bike had been cut down by the previous owner.

In comparison the £100 quoted for labour is way cheaper.

i got a headstock stand for a whole 35 quid BUT

to use on a falco is a pain in the bum - there is a cover that needs to be removed before it can be fitted....

And you need to undo the top two bolts on the centre plastic bit and bend it out of the way.

Just put a new front tyre on yesterday and had to do this last night, not too much of a pain TBH. I remove the front mudguard too, just to be safe.

In fact a headstock stand wouldn't be much use for swapping the yokes over as the stem has to drop out downwards ..... from where a headstock stand would be supporting it ....................

Good Point.

1st time I slung the front of the bike from the frame spars to the garage rafters until I noticed the rafters were far from secure (rented house).

2nd time I supported the bike on stands via a rod through the triangular hole in the frame below the seat and weighted the back down.

3rd time I made up a couple of supports and slung the bike through the frame rails again.

I supported the bike close to its centre on an Ulti-Pro stand (like an Abba but more robust) and then raised the front with a trolley jack

.... back in the days before I upgraded the brakes and still had the mille oil tank and cooler .....

Andy, how stable was that set-up? Sometime this year I'll be swapping my forks, & I'd rather not buy a headstock stand for just this one job. As the Fut has a centre stand, I'm hoping that and a jack will be adequate.

Very stable Mart. The Ulti-pro is a great bit of kit - though I think they've stopped making them

Mart Mart Mart ... You really are looking at this all wrong Andy is obviously trying to do you a favour. If you take the centre stand not only do you get the chance to experience part of the thrill and joy of falco ownership, you can also justify the purchase of something like an abba stand. Doesn't matter if you don't need it you can have one and talk about it; ...
The real benefit though is should there come a time Gill asks you to clear some bike stuff out you will have accumulated a host of stuff you don't need and which will have held some value meaning you liberate funds for Motörhead gigs and gain many smartie points and can enjoy beginning the process all over

Well the forks came home today, I had to go get them from the post office this morning. They look great, the Ti nitride is still hold and fresh looking as I the anodising on the fork legs and the fork bottoms are clean too with no scrapes or corrosion. All in al I would say that the seller was accurate in saying they had only done 200 miles or so. They should look pretty damn good with the carbon muddy.
