Get a laser printer. I had a succession of inkjets with varying degrees of printing issues due to dirty heads - and sometimes they just didn't like to clean.
I persevered while I could get good quality non-OEM cartridges that didn't block any more than the OEM ones but when they became unavailable I realised I could get cheaper, better quality, hassle free prints from a Laser printer.
Made the change and haven't looked back.

IJT will give you a free laser printer if you buy a minimum number of toner cartridges. When you've used them up they do excellent quality "own brand" cartridges at great prices. They are who I use:

+1 - Wouldn't have an inkjet printer if you paid me. If you don't use them enough the heads clog and stop printing, if you use them even a reasonable amount they chew their way through cartridges at a stupid rate. They're priced absurdly low to snare you, then they make their money on cartridge sales.

Laser printer every time.

Just bought one of these (new) before I saw they did refurbs. Pleased with it .. and check out their cartridge prices on that page.
Couldn't justify a laser printer.

Thing is with my printer the head's part of the cartridge apparently - and I put the new cartridge in cos it would only print in pink - which is what usually happens when the colourt cartridge has run out.

It's a very old printer - HP Deskjet 710c - and has been absolutely excellent, never had a problem with it and I get refilled cartridges from Printerinks online which have always been excellent too.

As it's now 11 years old I fear the cause of pinkness may be Sam's suggestion B !

Well well well!

My printer problem is solved! I googled it and look what I got - and it works!
