Have a word with Southern Cross in Kilburn, see if theyve got anything in the parts bin. sometimes theyre good at coming up with secondhand bits and bobs, or even talk to him about it and see what they sees as a solution for donors. (Ask for Don and mention Ridersite pointed you to him)

Not a unique problem unfortunately.

See link to AF1 for similar.

Fixed!

I fitted the new stator and put it all back together the weekend gone, and it works!

Total cost - £32.75 (posted) for the stator

Although oil & filter can be added to that as I'm going to do an oil & filter change this weekend to catch any bits that may have escaped into the oil.

The only difficult bit was getting the flywheel off, but a bit of patience, a breaker bar and plenty of heat shifted it in the end.

That is good news - and the cost is pretty good to - all things considered :smt003

Grats Dave, I think I'm going to look into the spare one I've got to check this and then do mine too.

So the questions:-

Did you need any gaskets?

Did you have to drop the oil?

Special tools required?

Cheers

Thanks Falcopops!

Nope, I was careful when removing the alternator cover and just cleaned the gasket before reusing, no signs of a leak since.

I didn't bother, although you do lose about 1/4L when taking the cover off. I will be changing it this weekend but only as the flywheel was full of bits of metal!

Special tools required?
14mm allen socket
Tool (M22x1.5 bolt) for removing flywheel - Had one made up at work
Crank holding tool - The spare bit of M8 studding in my toolbox worked fine
Breaker bar and extra bit of pipe (more leverage) to remove flywheel
Plumbers torch for heating various bits
Loctite to reassemble - 'Borrowed' from work
3 off M8x18 bolts - Could only find M8x20, filed 2mm off

If you're gonna remove the cover to check/replace the sprag it's probably worth replacing the bolts holding the sprag to the flywheel too. Mine didn't have any Loctite on, which probably had something to do with them failing.

Great news Dave, it never looked like something that could be done so quickly and cheaply from looking at your photos, it looked a right mess.
Well done mate.

I'd have to agree with Howard, you've done a great job there for very little outlay. Well done mate

It cost me more just to find out there was nowt wrong with my Falco :smt013
