It is in fact better to use a variety of programs if you think you have an infection and most can be controlled via a mix of stopping services (start- run- Services.msc - ok or enter) and or task manager. If outlook hangs kill it first via task manager (stop all instances of outlook.exe) then use services to kill the offending program. You can also use msconfig to start the machine excluding other programs to eliminate which are the offending ones
Unless you're like me and that whole paragraph goes whoooosh straight over my head!
I've got rid of AVG and installed Avast and the difference is incredible! Maybe I don't need a new PC after all!

Can't really see why - every time I've upgraded the AVG it uninstalled the old version, but it got slower every time.
Now if I just had a clue what's rubbish on the start menu, and what I should keep, I'd be well away!

You see, I don't even know what that means! I am NOT going to remove anything cos I don't know what I'm doing!
I've kept a computer running for 10 years by not doing anything where I didn't know what was what, not changing now!

+1 for Avast (so far), picked up a few things that Kaspersky hadn't registered (of course, could just have shown stuff to show it's "better"), but my machine is certainly running a lot faster. I do some amateur photography, and flicking between images is now lightning fast, used to hang for 5-10s per image on preview, now it's pretty much instant.
Only got the freebie version, but might look at upgrading once this one has settled in.

Another interesting thing since I ditched AVG and got avast - Ad-Aware has started working again!
