I bought the CB77 that is awaiting restoration in 1970. It last ran in 1978..And the 350LC was bought new in 1980, and last ran in 1989. I operate on a relaxed time scale for fixing things...

You and me both..lol..
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

Back in the late 70s at a time when I was briefly bike free, I bought an AJS 7R race bike in a box as a "project", supposedly a Tom Kirby machine. (That may not mean much to you folk now, but that was a magic name for me, as I was brought up watching Manx Nortons. Matchless G50s and AJS 7R club racers, the new Jap stuff was much too exotic to dream of!).
I was told by the bloke who sold it to me, it didn't need much to get it racing again!
It was the most stupid thing I ever did in my biking life.
It wasn't a box it was really a basket, as this thing was a total basket case.
I would have had to sell the bloody house to get it rebuilt and running again.
Sold it at a massive loss and my bank balance suffered for a year or so, have always tried to buy with my "head" since then.

Ah yes, as I no longer have an Aprilia I can fit right in on this thread.

I have a Suzuki Drz 400 which is a fun little bike and basically gets used for the mucky jobs. Especially good fun if I fit the knobblies when it snows.

My latest proper bike is a Cagiva Raptor 1000 which is a hoot to ride and satisfies a longstanding itch to own a TL/SV. Have to say though that I much prefered the Rotax in my Falco..... Oh well.

I have the remains of my BMW R90's BOT racer in the garage. Missing lots of essential bits and it may never rumble again. However it keeps my wife amused......

1st bike for over 20 years, Suzuki SV650S
Was perfect when I got it 18 months ago with 9K on the clock & all the paperwork you could want, owned by an enthusiastic polish engineer.
Now out front which my son has used for all that time for commuting to work, through snow, rain, sleet etc.etc.
Now 22K miles & not quite so perfect but still a great bike.
Hiding under a carpet of grey hair & lard.

LOL....I think I've probably had my 400/4 a fair bit longer than Gio and for quite a lot of that time it's been in need of restoration .....
Having had it for about 33yrs I'm keeping mine and one day it will live again.
Maybe Gio has a similar attachment to his?

I've spent a fair bit so far, shot blasted frame, rechromed wheels with ss spokes, I'm still looking for an additional engine case as then it'll have 2 engines, as I have 2 sets of internals. 1 engine is up and running (well was 4 years ago after a rebuild with performance being the name of the game), I've reclothed the seat and various bits have been cleaned up and polished, its job in progress really, sadly lack of funds atm (thanks to the Labour Party) means it'll be a while before its on the road.

BTW if anyone finds a front mudguard for it I'd be grateful if they'd give me a shout. :smt001

You'd only save about a tenner going 2nd hand. http://www.bikepartsuk.com/stock_refine ... del_go.y=2

Yes but that's fibreglass - a metal one would be nicer!

Metal would still be nicer - more original!

david silver has a couple of genuine original ones in stock - though they aren't cheap. That said, I've seen second had ones on ebay go for that sort of money.

Makes me wish I'd stripped my 400/4 and sold the parts seperately - would have made a fortune!
