I think the big bore kit would keep the torque rich character of the bike best, but obviously with even more grunt.
Having somebody do it all for you won't be cheap, but not a bad way to go, if you can afford it.
Anyway I thought you were more Scrumpy drinking Pastie eaters down there.
Had holidays in Cornwall for nearly every year for 20 odd years in the past. Love the road out from St. Ives to Land's End on the north coast.
Loved the Pasties from the little Pasty factory on the Leedstown road out of Hayle nearly as much!

For now just enjoy the bike on those great roads before they all fill up!

just remind me what have you done to the bird already?
may well be other cheaper things you can do first that may well give you that extra bit
(chip being the first!)
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Wouldn't change the chip if there were likely to be other changes to intake, exhaust or the engine itself - I'd do them first and then get the chip to suit otherwise you'll have to keep buying more and more chips !
Of course if no more changes are expected, then it could be a good way to go.

Right have spoken with Griff from Aprilia performance and i think he's done well to talk me out of having the big bore kit .....it was the looking at about £2000 to have it done that stopped me ...................Maybe keep an eye out for a low mileage RSVR engine up to 2003 and just do a swap ............One things for sure Griff knows what he's talking about !!!!
As for the bike
SO FAR ..........
Ecu unit from an RSVR 2003 model with Edwards chip
Hooked air box ( so whole air box gone )
Open end cans made to 400mm long instead of standard 450mm ......sound great but would they effect the bike in anyway as they're shorter ??
Then rear shock and other bits and bobs .................Have left the gearing standard for the time being but do have a 15t front ready to go on if needs be ......was trying not to lose top end to much ........ The thing with the Falco is i just think the look is the " Dogs Bollocks " otherwise i would be riding a gixer thou again , i know it's not all about top end speed but the joy of having something that will make people think ......"what the fuck is that" .........almost makes me think it's worth a go ?! ...............
Howard next time down in Cornwall let us know we could meet up , i live in a small village ( no jokes please !! ) just outside Penzance ..............That St Ives to Lands end road is a hoot although the longer the sun shines the more cars come down our way ............Farmers are out and about now as well so there's mud on the roads which is always fun.........................The old bill have started watching the Pz to lands end road this year as it's a great road for an evening blast when it's quiet and everyone is home from the beach .........so be warned !!

sounds strange, but i think that that ecu and chip may not be right
iirc that should be used with 57mm throttle bodies?
if that is the case, then perhaps change to standard ecu with another chip, while looking for a mille lump
while you are at it, 54mm throttle bodies and pc3.....

Go on - try the 15t
From what I've heard, it doesn't really affect top end as the Falco struggles to pull top revs in top gear with standard gearing.
Therefore the real top end is not much changed (though I wouldn't know as I've never had it up at quite those speeds)
Unless you are doing a lot of motorway cruising, most people find the 15/41 or 16/43 ratios a better bet.
Try it - you can always swap back.
Make sure you torque the sprocket bolt up properly and loctite it - there have been a few cases of them coming undone which is at best messy at worst ..... locking the rear wheel with possibly disastrous consequences.

The other good thing about the 15T swap is that it doesn't harm the economy at all, as it means you are able to use 5th and particularly 6th more often. The bike also pulls better in all higher gears, so even less need to change down. You just get even more accessible grunt and dont really lose anyting, as Andy says, try it and see, you won't go back.
I didn't do it for a couple of years after the comments from the Aprilia dealer, would never go back now.
Sorry there
is just one drawback.
It makes it even more likely to try to wheelie under power
ENJOY

Ok that could make sense with the ecu unit and chip although wouldn't just changing the chip be the difference and not the whole thing ?
Or if it's the throttle bodies would i be able to fit 57 mm straight on ......ie one off one on ? Or shall i hunt for 54mm instead ?
Will be changing front to 15t this weekend and see what happens ............
As always thanks to all for all you info , it's very much appreciated ................now where's my kids piggy bank for some extra cash !!!

54mm bodies go straight on - so long as you have the matching velocity stacks
the 57mm ones are wired differently - and need some fettling to fix
reason for the ecu and the chip is down to the cams - they are quite different between the mille and falco i believe??
I may have a spare af1 chip coming up shortly.... stop sniggering andy!

The earliest Milles had the same valves as the Falco but there was an update (around 2000 ?) that gave them bigger valves and different cam timing

Don't you just hate it when a chap can't hold his chips
(BTW he didn't get mine ... he claims it's coming in a shipment from Holland ....)

Dont think you'd notice a change from a good falco engine to a good rsvr engine
unless it was a 57mm edwards type spec. Straight swap though.
The rsvr crowd seem to get hardons if you mention smalt (smault?smolt?) exhausts, probably get a bigger increase converting a set to fit?
Mind you, probably costs same as big bore kit
edit: bargain, only $2000
