At these prices, the value of a scottoiler becomes even more apparent :smt003 :smt004

Sorry to be picky Howard but do you mean 15/42 here ?

As it happens that's what I will end up with due to B and C not having a 41.
Yes you are right Paul, I meant 15/42, (Mea Culpa), I was online at work as my AOL internet at home only works on days without a "Y" in them, so just doing it from memory (not a good choice at my age), without checking my facts!
It's just that 1 up at back and 1 down at front should put the chain back to the same length as standard gearing.
Both times I have lowered the gearing so far, by changes to just the rear or front sprocket, the adjusters have always ended up part way out on a new chain.
As I said though I think 15/42 might be just a bit too low for me, but be interested to see how you find it.
I think one of my problems is that I have had my bike with either standard gearing or just 1 tooth up at the back for more than 4 1/2 years and 20K miles, so I have got used to it like that, and also not using 6th gear much!
I am still getting used to a 15 front, which I fitted in April, and on my regular weekend route my head says I should be in a certain gear, and more often than not now I need to be one gear up! I also use 6th a lot more now.
Certainly the acceleration feels stronger and it is much easier to use in traffic at slower speeds.
So in general I would agree with most people that this seems a very good mod.

Well i've just tried to fit a 15T/42T and 106L Renthal chain kit to my bike which has an RSV swingarm....No chance can't get the axle through the rear wheel as there's no chain slack. :smt017
The only way round it is a 108L chain or fit another 41T rear sprocket, which is the only option i have now as the new chain is riveted. £19.99 for sprocket from intobikes.co.uk.
The moral of the story is- If you have an RSV swingarm fitted you'll require a 108 link chain with 15/42 sprockets. I dropped the front to a 15T as soon as i got the bike (new) so kept the original 41T rear and therefore kept the 106L chain.
Hope this is of some help. :smt011

Fairly sure I have a 43 tooth rear lying around I must try one day...

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

OK then.

It's all fitted and fits perfectly.

So to recap that's a 15 and 42 Renthal sprockets with a 106 Tsubaki chain and a standard Falco swingarm. After an initial bedding in ride and adjustment the chain adjusters are showing 3 marks which is just about ideal I think.

Thanks for everyone's help especially Howard.
