Seeing as we've also talked about MODS in this thread I wondered when one would step in! :smt018
Come and join in Andy.
Can't say it aint been varied.
Anyway just before I got the Capri in the mid 70s, I got a new bike, my first Jap 2 stroke, a Suzuki T350 Rebel, bought it to replace my old Triumph T110 to go to work on, as the 6 volt electrics on the Triumph were not a lot of use when working nights.
That really was the Dark Side.
Loved it and got me back on two wheels again proper.
Followed that with a GT380 triple.
Am I forgiven Andy?

LOL - No powers out here Howard - beyond my jurisdiction (outside of Aprilia Land). You're safe from me :smt003

.... dunno about your attempt to get it back on track .... all of your "new" bikes have aged a bit over the years and are now old bikes.

Glad we've at least moved into the 70s though - the decade in which I started on bikes.

Yeh, but you've got to give me a bit of latitude.
Gio's new bike that started this thread was an old scooter. :smt003

The engine was actually the original Herald unit with a modified and gassflowed Spitfire head with bigger SU carbs, twin 1 1/2" SUs I think, plus it had an original Triumph stage 2 Le Mans camshaft, as fitted to the works Le Mans Mk 1 Spitfires that won their class in the 24 hr race around 63 or 64 I think. These cars were fitted with hard tops and looked just like the later GT6s.
It was effectively a full race cam and unfortunately caused the plugs to oil up in heavy traffic, quick in it's time though.
The main thing that rotted was the chassis rails, it was a continuous cycle replacing one every few months!
The other big pain was the nylon front suspension bushes that wore out nearly as often.
It had an SAH negative camber kit at the rear so that was actually OK.
Kept working open! fecked is the word then.

I spend 3 hours in the loft looking I can't find the buggers anywhere :smt010

My ultimate cheap car was a mk 4 1500 Spitfire, engine removed and replaced with a Stag unit, rear suspension was De Dion rear independent, ala Rover 2000 and there was a crossflow head off a Jag I think ( I'm not a mechanic so forget) moded to fit. It had 6 webers (one per cylinder) and the suspension at the front was from a Reliant FF. Went like shite from a spade, but kept overheating in traffic. :smt005
