Yes!
Get the fork sliders Titanium Nitrided and put some progressive fork springs in. Prolly get the forks revalved while I'm at it.
May be cheaper to wait until some Ohlins forks come up on flea-bay or in the AF1 shop.
That sounds good. Are the Ohlins the same fork diameter as the Falco ones? (mine appears to have Showas, btw) What sort of price are we talking here...?

It also appears to have a Euro headlight, but I'm sure that can be fixed under warranty.

Only had time for a quick post before - but there are a few priorities to check out - hopefully all sorted but worth checking:
1. Is it on MEZ3 tyres? If so don't let it stay that way for any longer than you have to - I tried to wear mine out (wrong plan) but changed both when the rear wore out. Virtually any other rubber changes the handling immensely.

2. Is the headlight a UK item? A good number of the later models turned up with European headlights. There's a sticky thread HERE that explains how to check. If it's wrong your dealer should fix it.

3. Has it been de-restricted? If not, no big deal - you can do it yourself or get the dealer to sort it at the first service. De restriction is done by removing a bung in the airbox and snipping a wire on the ECU (and taping up the ends). See HERE

Get these checked then, by all means do the other things you plan - my priorities would be sidestand and shock (that Ohlins seems a real bargain).
Re the sidestand, I've never heard anyone that's fitted the Gixer stand give any negative feedback but there has been some from a few that fitter the VTR stand - that doesn't necessarily mean the VTR stand is worse - they may just be more fussy.
That Ohlins seems a real bargain. If it's the Falco-specific Ohlins, there was a rumour that it wouldn't fit with the Mille swingarm - I think this put a number off buying. I even repeated this myth myself until I saw a picture of one with a Mille swinger on the AF1 forum. I checked with the owner and it was fine - myth exposed.
It DOES have one disadvantage over the Mille Ohlins - it is not height adjustable.

Another thing really worth considering is a Scottoiler - the earlier you fit one, the sooner you recoup your outlay in chains and sprockets that you haven't needed to buy.

Hope some of this is useful.

Anyway, owning a new Falco is an experience to be treasured - enjoy it. It's the only bike I ever bought new (though DavShill has had 2 brand new Falcos ..... but that's because the first was nicked).

No - you'll need to change the Yokes and the Clip-ons.

.... and just line up in the queue for them .........

Hi D-Rider. Thanks for your post - very helpful.

It is on MEZ3s. I've heard all about them and am pretty apprehensive, to be honest. I will probably keep them on for the remainder of this year and quietly lose them over the winter. Unless I really get to hate them, of course.

As posted above, I believe it's a Euro headlight. The bike was originally bound for the German market (handbook in Italian, French and German, but no English...!) and has been in a crate for four years. To be honest I'd like to try and hang on to the Euro-spec headlight as I have a place in France which I want to spend more time at.

It is restricted, but MMC have already said they will derestrict it at the first service. No problem there.

I've already bought a Scottoiler and Lube-tube for it. Any suggestions on where to mount it (now there's an open invitation...) would be very welcome. I'm a big believer in Scottoilers...

The £121 Ohlins is a real bargain, but I really want a shock with ride height adjustment AND hydraulic preload adjustment (having that on my VFRs has spoiled me forever). If I can get those retro-fitted to the 'cheap' Ohlins then that would be the way forward, but I'm doubtful whether it can be done (at a sensible price, anyway).

I'm definitely leaning (no pun intended) towards the GSXR stand. Will all versions of the GSXR1000 stand fit, or only certain models?

Forks are Showas (thanks for the identification guide), as it's one of the early '04 models according to the frame number. At least that means it's cheaper & easier to get them modded.

Again, many thanks.

Looks as though you know where you're going with it :smt023

If you're spending a fair deal of time in France i can understand sticking with the headlight.
You can get through the MOTs with masking strips stuck on it - I don't think they can fail you.

My Scottoiler fits under the seat in a gap just above the battery. It's a fairly horizontal position but it works fine. I've not had the complication of the lube tube though.

Shock sounds a great deal. I'm sure I saw some ride height adjuster adapter thingy - think it was on evilbay. If that is compatible it would be a great way to go.

As for the derestriction, that's when mine was done. Enjoyed the motor when it was new - enjoyed it all over again when it was derestricted :smt003

I understand your plan with the tyres - I did it myself. That's fine .... but bet you come to the same conclusion as me when you do change them (BTW I hate anything going to waste so getting the max out of the tyres is something I do understand)

At last !
We were about to throw you off the site if you didn't get one soon!
Seriously though, well done mate, looks like things fell into place very nicely after all. :smt038 :smt038 :smt038 :smt038
That's just upped the number or Falcos in the Sheffield area by a serious percentage!
I would just ride it as it is for a while, certainly get it run in first and see what you think of it.
As for the headlight, mine's been on a Euro version since new from DK, I never noticed until I checked following Andy's article. it's been through every test as it is and nobody ever noticed then either, (no tape fitted).

Hi Mango. Congrats on the bargain buy.
As it seems you've got a shed load of cash to throw at it why not go the US spec sidestand and be done with it.

I wish that was the case! My 'wishlist' is just that - it will take me a year or so (at least) to work through that little lot and more importantly to get the funds.

I'm just trying to prioritise at the moment - most benefit for least outlay is what I'm after...

To be honest I think I should just enjoy the bike for a while before I go bonkers modifyng it. Get some miles under its wheels and experience all that V-twin goodness.

15 tooth front sprocket then, with out a doubt the best mod for the money after ditching the crappy OE tyres.

Wrong ..... that costs about £15 ..... de-restriction is the best mod for the money .... it's FREE.

(15t sprocket is next though)

Ah, yeah, but, see... if there's no money involved... it can't be the best mod for the money, 'cos there isn't any money, is there? :smt019

OK - I'm now charging 10p commission for every derestriction.

Now that there's a bit of cash, I win :smt019 :smt019 :smt019

Get them off the bike ASAP, mate! They are really poor, plus really old! They will look good until you fall. They do not hold well at all, I crashed my bike on them, wouldn't happen on good rubber. You are going to change them anyway, do it NOW! Don't risk your new bike! This is not a saving.

Congrats, BTW.

What is it about MEZ3s that make people hate them so? Are they bad in the wet , or just generally rubbish? And in what way are they rubbish?

I can just imagine what SWMBO will say when I tell her I'm replacing brand new tyres...
