I am just interested to know how these garages that fail you spot the difference. Is it the headlight-machine thingie or do they just point the bike at a wall in the dark?

it's the headlight machine thingie.

its the machine... and to prove it to me they projected the light against the wall. I taped it up and passed the MOT a few days later.
