Well there are a wide range of suspects, we've got travelling travellers as well as lots of stationary ones, many diverse recent migrant types, a band of gay pirates and a full range of common or garden scrote.

It was datatagged and had a factory immobiliser which I would have thought would have limited it's usefulness somewhat.

Unless an immobiliser is an integral part of the ignition ecu, it'll only take a bit more time to remove it from the wiring harness and get the thing going ... sorry

It was the latest Honda one fully integrated with the ecu. It's beatable but would require some part swapping.

Is that a bit like having your mobile phone nicked ?
Your network provider can immobilise the device thus semi defeating the thieving bastards, you're left with a degree of satisfaction and a degree off loss ?
Pity the anti-theft measures cannot provide instant castration

Here is a suggestion that would have merit

A cheap second hand iPhone or windows phone

Payg sim with a small amount of credit

Wired into the loom so charge is maintained - just leave 3G on

Use either apple's find my phone or the Windows equivalent

That would allow you to track the phone and bike to within 5 metres....

Just a thought

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

OR ANDROID !!!!!

Plenty of apps to do this

(also there are dedicated low cost units you can buy that are cheaper than buying a phone)

It's a good thought and one that I've been thoughting. I'd have to learn to work a phone at some point though.

Good ideas but perhaps a fairly competent thief may spot a mobile phone spliced into the wiring loom.
I wonder what the cost of a basic tracking device is ?

From about twelve quid - or a lot less if you go for one direct from China:

(Note: This is just one that's available - not a specific recommendation)

A. Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
B. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

A number of people seem to have been really clobbered with these lately.... suggest you find one in the UK!

Though at that price there will not be any charges!

According to a very nice sounding DC one eastern European scrote has been done for the theft of the vehicle used while pinching mine. Got the feeling that more de-scroting is probable.

Suspect that bike is now in bits in a far off land that looks like it chose its name by pulling random scrabble letters from a bag.

Insewerants have come up with another 300 quid which puts me at 100 quid off where I wanted to be, but flogging the panniers will get me that.

So ends the short but happy life of Horace the Honda II.

RIP Horace, a short but happy life.
Well, not too shabby in the end.
Sadly we will never be rid of those that will steal yours rather than work to buy thier own
