My understanding is that it is NOT acceptable and it is the responsibility of the horse rider/owner to clear it up.fatboy wrote:Amazing that you can be fined for leaving a dog turd but it is acceptable to leave a hazardous mountian of horse shit in the road.
The above are used to prosecute farmers that leave mud on the road - I see no difference in applying this to horse shit and cow shit....... shame it probably can't be applied to Bull shit ....Highways Act 1980 Section 137 “If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence”.
Highways Act 1980 Section 148 “If without lawful authority or excuse a person deposits anything whatsoever on a highway to the interruption of any user of the highway he is guilty of an offence”.
I wouldn't be surprised if it already is.
I doubt there would be many prosecutions as without a nationwide network of Horse Cameras, they'd never catch those responsible.
Maybe horses could also have to carry number plates .....

IMO, if they want to ride a horse on the road, they should need some kind of training and a license anyway.
I see kids in their early teens riding around where I live on the roads and they obviously have zero road-sense or training! That and they are 'in charge' of semi-uncontrollable 'vehicles' that randomly takes a shit wherever it pleases!
A youth gets fined and their mini dirt bike crushed (ok, their parents get the fine) for similar offences! lol
Surely a horse that the rider intends to ride on the public highways should have to wear some kind of nappy/bag-thing!?!?
I doubt that the powers that be would be impressed if I collected up a week worth of my household excrement and painted the local roads with it!
I rang my local Council who told me it wasn't their fault, they were not aware of any problems with local road surfaces and that it was just 'one of those things'!
FFS!!!
Boils my piss...

Ooh I am STIFF today (and NOT in a good way! lol).![]()
The Missus had to help me out of bed and to get me dressed!
TBH, I need more or less a full set of right-side plastics in order to get her back to 'full' strength!
The nose cone, mid-section, bellypan and tail unit have all suffered pretty major 'grinding' damage, (the fuel tank suffered some minor scratching) tho everything seems to be in one piece and luckily no cracks that I can see (tho my mobility is somewhat restricted at the mo, making it hard to check! lol).
I'll have to get them all off when I'm more physically able and see what can be sanded/filled/repaired/resprayed.
I can live with the superficial stuff for now tho as I am aware of the cost involved...
Thanks to Alad, I really just need a new set of bar ends (will get a set off Ebay fairly cheap), a pair of crash bungs (will find another set of DHM's somewhere if I can as I now know they work!), the rear break master cylinder (behind the heel plate: all seals and the banjo connection have ruptured: rebuildable?), I still have my OE front brake lever so will reuse that, and I have a tail piece I won on Ebay for 99p a while back that I could use too!
I'm hopeful I can just swap end-cans over so the damage is hidden on the inside.
Thankfully all casings and the frame appear untouched...
Time for more diazipam...
Thanks again chaps: Makes this all feel a little less traumatic than it is getting this support and assistance.![]()
